New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

The Redmi K20 family, broke the traditional definition of the ‘Redmi’ subbrand. After the separation from Xiaomi, Redmi is trying to step into the premium flagship segment. Well, they are kinda successful, especially with the Redmi K20 Pro.

Unlike Poco F1, the philosophy of Redmi K20 and K20 Pro is to deliver a luxurious piece of gadget infused with high end techs. They had to increase the price as the company did not want to compromise with the build quality.

Another parameter is software development, and Xiaomi really excels in this domain. Redmi K20 Pro is getting regular feature and bugfix updates via stable channel, while it also received the first taste of Android Q (rather Android 10) based MIUI via semi-public beta.

The arrival of MIUI 11 is imminent, and we also know that Xiaomi will close down the development of MIUI 10 based beta builds at the end of this month. Interestingly, the penultimate weekly beta build now publicly brings Android 10 to Redmi K20 Pro.

If you have the Indian Redmi K20 Pro or European Mi 9T Pro, you may try the corresponding xiaomi.eu build. Remember, this one needs an unlocked bootloader.

On the other hand, the regular Redmi K20 is receiving August security patch along with a bunch of improvements in India. The last update bundled June patchset, which was released more than a month ago.

As you can see, Mi 9T aka Redmi K20 does not get any kind of public Android 10 based MIUI build yet. No need to worry through, as Xiaomi should eventually concentrate on the mid-rangers after servicing the flagships.

A huge thanks to my friend yshalsager and the Xiaomi Firmware Updater project for tracking the OTA update URLs.

Update (August 31)

After Poco F1, Xiaomi is now recruiting volunteers to test Android 10 based MIUI update for Redmi K20 Pro in India. However, this is not MIUI 11. Details here.
