Some wireless carriers intentionally delay the adaptation process of new age techs. Rich Communication Services aka RCS support is the perfect example for this scenario, as Google had to take the matter in their own hands to speed the rollout process.
A similar situation was experienced by Sprint users, as the US carrier prefer to promote their in-house ‘Calling PLUS’ offering before rolling out standardized VoLTE (Voice over LTE) support on their network.
Not only this ‘Calling PLUS’ had severely limited featureset, but it also was not cross-compatible with other carriers. Sprint gradually started to enable VoLTE across USA since September 2018, but unlocked phones had a hard time to utilize that.
Is Calling PLUS the same as VoLTE (Voice over LTE)?
No, the current Calling PLUS solution provides VoIP capabilities using the Sprint LTE network. VoLTE will be replacing our Calling PLUS service as a much more capable platform that also supports simultaneous voice and data, over more Sprint devices with better voice quality. Before we do updates market-by-market on various devices, we are alerting Calling Plus customers so they can decide whether to continue using the feature until our VoLTE launch is complete.

A bunch of Samsung Galaxy phones initially received the green signal from the carrier. The list got expanded over time but you may often encounter frustrated Sprint customers yelling at the company due to poor implementation of the tech.
I wake up this morning and find myself doing another update! However, it didn’t give me VoLTE on my Galaxy Note 9 in which I’ve been told that it should. Once again Sprint, you’re an awesome company!
This come after Sprint asked me were I in the city and state market with VoLTE. Yes, Dallas… “Oh we don’t have an update for the Note ? 9 yet! “Why?” Basically, I don’t know why…???♂️

Well, the good news is the newly released Galaxy Note 10 family apparently comes with out of the box support for Sprint VoLTE! Yes, you don’t even need a mandatory software update to have crystal clear calling experience.
Wait, there’s more! You don’t need a Sprint branded Galaxy Note 10 to use VoLTE, as carrier unlocked variants are allegedly supported as well. Pretty good move, don’t you think?
I can’t believe it, I definitely can not believe that VoLTE is up and running and working on my unlocked by Samsung Note 10+. The Note 10+ is a keeper. Bye, bye Note 9.

FYI, both Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ are getting their day-one updates. Verizon became the first US carrier to do so, although you can easily convert/unbrand your US Snapdragon Galaxy Note 10 to grab those OTAs as fast as possible.
