Joining the August security updates club is the South Korean phone manufacturer LG, as US carrier AT&T is now pushing the August security patch to LG V40 ThinQ phones on the network.
LG V40 ThinQ is the company’s 2018 high-end device fueled by Snapdragon 845 SoC. Shipped originally with Android 8.1 (Oreo) out of the box, Android Pie went live for the device few month back. After the OEM’s home country, the first batch was Verizon’s LG V40 ThinQ, followed by AT&T’s.
Shortly thereafter, V40 users on US cellular & those with unlocked variants also started receiving the same. The update eventually arrived on T-Mobile units as well, but not before the roll out expanded to Europe. Units in Asian regions like Hong Kong, Singapore & India were also upgraded recently.
At the gap of weeks, while Android 9.0 Pie on V40 units in other Asian areas landed with the June security patch, the one on the Indian devices arrived with the July patch.
However, Sprint users are still gawking to see that Pie notification pop-up on their units, while smartphone users from various OEMs await this year’s Android Q. But who can change their fate other than the carrier?
Anyway, moving ahead of the Pie saga, US carrier AT&T is now rolling out the latest security update for LG V40 devices, i.e. the August one. The update bears build number PKQ1.190202.001 and carries version number V405UA20f.
The info comes credits to a redditor, who shared the update is rolling out as OTA, and is just a security patch upgradation, as the changelog doesn’t specify any other enhancements.
So AT&T users can at least enjoy the latest security patch. But keep in minds it’s an OTA and may take time to hit all AT&T LG V40 units. Here’s hoping other carrier branded and unlocked variants also get the same soon. Needless to say, we’ll be keeping an eye and let you know as and when that happens.
