Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite August security update fixes screen rotation bug, still no fix for double-tap to wake issue

Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite may have already received a successor in the shape of Xiaomi Mi A3, but the device is still very high on the list of prioritized devices when it comes to regular software updates. At least this is what Android One gets even the most terrible companies at software updates to do.

There, I said it. Xiaomi isn’t the best OEMs out there when it comes to pushing regular software updates to its MIUI-powered devices. Sure, things have stepped up in the recent past, but its nothing close to what you get with devices running stock Android ala Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite and co.

Like other Android One-powered phones, the Mi A2 Lite is entitled to receive monthly security updates for up to three years. It’s only been a year since the device came to life, which means owners can expect to continue receiving monthly security updates for the next two years.

Until now, Xiaomi has been doing quite an impressive job keeping the device up to date. The update to June 2019 security patch arrived at about this time and a month later, July security patches followed. Unfortunately, the latter update came with some unwanted issues for Mi A2 Lite users.

After last month’s update, Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite users started reporting that the double-tap to wake screen feature wasn’t working as it should.

But this wasn’t the only issue users of the device started experiencing after the July update. After spending more time with the update, others reported that screen rotation was also broken and buggy.

As usual, Xiaomi was expected to address some, if not all of these issues with the August 2019 security update, which is now rolling out to the Mi A2 Lite. The update comes only a week after a similar firmware was pushed to the standard Mi A2 with August security patches and bug fixes.

Apparently, the new update takes care of the screen rotation bug, but the double-tap to wake feature is still missing in action.

I can’t use dt2w after the update. I was looking forward to it being enabled again after the update as some sites said. Can anyone that received the update confirm or deny? Is there an option for dt2w that I can’t find?

Unfortunately, not all bugs that came with the July update have been addressed in the latest August update. But we must agree that some significant improvements have been included in the update if what early adopters are saying is anything to go by.

Yea, despite the meager weight of just 65.2MB, it seems this update has a lot going on. First is the fixed screen rotation bug that has been annoying many users since the last update. Launcher animations and responsiveness are much more improved and so is switching between apps and the drawer.

One user has also shared a comprehensive list of changes and improvements they have noticed since the update. The list, of course, includes the good and bad things they’ve experienced so far, which may not be true for everyone using the Mi A2 Lite.

The update to August security patch is available over the air for owners of the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite. But if the OTA download notification hasn’t arrived on your device, you can grab the ROM below and install it manually.
