Motorized selfie camera is a great way to maximize the screen space, and that’s the exact reason why OEMs are incorporating this particular design in their phones. Once reserved for premium tier phones, now users can find this component in mid-rangers as well.
Chinese phone makers prefer to quickly absorb the current trend. We experienced the same with Realme X – a high value mid range phone with Snapdragon 710 SoC, AMOLED screen, in-display fingerprint scanner and cherry on top: a distinct pop up selfie camera.
The company initially released the phone in Mainland China, thus the Chinese variant is automatically entitled to get software updates faster than global models. For example, Indian Realme X received its first OTA at the beginning of this month but the security patch level was stuck at June!
On the other hand, the Chinese Realme X not only received July patch at that time, but also acquired August security patch (A.16) a few days ago. Another bug fix update (A.17) appeared shortly, but there is no easy way to get them installed on Indian Realme X units.
Well well well, seems that Realme India intentionally delayed the OTA. A new software version for Realme X is finally available in India that bundles August security patch and a drastic new feature.
The 317 MB incremental patch is gradually being pushed in India, thus you may need to wait for a while to get the update prompt on your phone. The list of fixes are pretty much identical to the Chinese A.16 build, but the OSIE Vision Effect is a nice surprise.
FYI, Object and Semantic Images and Eye-tracking (OSIE) is an artificial intelligence (AI) driven method to track human eye movement with greater precision. With this new tech on your phone, you should have an enhanced experience while using apps like TikTok or Vmate.
As you can see, this new piece of tech can be enabled on per-app basis, and is located under Settings => Display & Brightness. Hopefully we will get similar new addons in near future on other Realme phones too (as part of Realme edition of ColorOS and/or Realme OS).
The full update package of A.06 build is now available for download, but we have yet to capture the A.07 one.
