T-Mobile OnePlus 7 Pro receives major bugfix update, no August security patch yet

OnePlus 7 Pro wears many hats, and frequent software updates is one of them. Besides regular OTAs, the Shenzhen based OEM also enlisted the phone in the public beta testing on Android Q. The phone received Developer Preview 4 a few days ago, which is nothing but another step towards the stable Q update.

The T-Mobile branded variant is, however, excluded from this initiative. The carrier is separately working on the Q update and has their own beta testing mechanism, which is entirely different from the regular OnePlus 7 Pro.

Interestingly, the stable channel update for both models are mostly in sync with each other. We saw a sharp exception last month, when the T-Mobile OnePlus 7 Pro got July security patch as OxygenOS 9.5.9.GM31CB. At that time, the unlocked unit was running June patch with OxygenOS 9.5.10 build.

The community became sceptical about the inclusion of these fixes in the T-Mobile firmware, but the official update tracker of the wireless carrier was not helpful at all. The situation got an abrupt twist, when global OnePlus 7 Pro received August patch – even before Google Pixel phones.

Since last night, T-Mobile OnePlus 7 Pro owners are getting a new OTA prompt on their mobile. Before you guessed it wrong, let me warn you – still no August security update! Nevertheless, the changelog is pretty long and packs some interesting points.

Those who are on OxygenOS 9.5.9 should get a ~123 MB incremental update, while the size may increase if you are running older builds. Bundling an updated Google Map with the OTA sounds pretty pointless to me though, as the app can be easily updated via Google Play Store.

However, the company finally included an updated stock camera app (v3.4.22) along with fixes related to unwanted selfie camera popup issues. They allegedly improved the battery life and also patched some undisclosed Bluetooth and Wi-Fi bugs in this 9.5.10 OTA.

Unlike regular OnePlus 7 Pro, the T-Mobile variant does not allow end users to apply the update manually. Thus it would be pointless to share the download link of the OTA package, and you have to tap the ‘Check for update’ button (or do some voodoo) to grab the new build.
