Keeping track of Huawei (as well as Honor) flagships in terms of underlying platform can be disastrous job. Kirin 980 is their current top-grade SoC, which can be found under budget friendly Honor View 20 to the bleeding edge Huawei Mate 20 X 5G. Told you, there is no thumb rule!
FYI, the aforementioned phone is the sole 5G enabled device in Huawei’s portfolio till date. The Chinese OEM modified the regular Mate 20 X to build the phone rather than creating it from scratch.
On the other hand, Mate 20 X can be thought as a lesser notched variant of Mate 20 Pro. Both of them received EMUI 9.1 update with a number of new features like GPU Turbo 3.0 and a specialized camera mode for shooting the moon at the end of June.
However, the availability of the update differs across regions. The 9.1.300 build came with June security patches, but it was not available on many European carrier branded and unlocked units.
Looks like Huawei is now going for a large scale rollout, as a new update is reportedly hitting Mate 20 Pro across Europe. Although the changelog is mostly identical, the new build (9.1.310) contains July security patches.
As you can see, end users are hammered with a ~4 GB update package which is pretty normal in case of major changes behind the curtain. Interestingly, some users got the full sized OTA even after having 9.1.0.300 installed.
Opposite examples are also there. The new build could allegedly be downloaded only via HiSuite as per some Mate 20 Pro owners.
Heads up,
Currently on 9.1.0.300 and although the 9.1.0.310 firmware not showing in Software Update or Hicare, I am updating to 9.1.0.310 via HiSuite on PC.
Best Regards.

That’s not the end of confusions! People are also getting a minor patch on top of 9.1.0.310 build in some regions, which could be related to carrier specific issues or preparatory OTA for upcoming major release (aka EMUI 10).
Has anybody else received a patch for 9.1.0.310 (patch02)?

Yes, this morning in France too. Size patch is 1,71 mo. It’s improve stability and performance system.

The size of this incremental ‘patch02’ is less than 2 MB, so packing some significant fixes inside is not at all feasible. If your Huawei P20 Pro also got the same update, then try to locate the changes and let us know.
