Taiwanese phone maker Asus unveiled ZenFone 6 back in Q2, this year. The camera-centric flagship device features a powerful Snapdragon 855 processor, a whopping 5000mAh battery, a flipping dual rear camera setup with gigantic 48MP primary sensor, and Android 9.0 Pie with ZenUI 6 on top.

Asus ZenFone 6, sold as Asus 6z in the Indian market, has been receiving continuous camera-focused updates since the device’s release. Considering the sequence of updates, it won’t be wrong saying the OEM seem pretty serious to enhance the user experience in terms of the flagship-grade camera.

Soon after the launch, the phone received it’s first update which brought flip camera rotation control via volume key, super night mode and HDR for the rear camera. The second patch got Night mode for the front camera, while, the third update brought ‘Super Night mode’ for Ultra-wide camera.

The most recent one (16.1220.1906.174) surprisingly was a minor update which carried no camera-related enhancement, but only optimized the haptic feedback.

Wait. Did we mention, that the device has mainly been getting camera-centric updates ONLY?

Yes, that’s correct. Asus ZenFone 6 has not received any monthly Android security patch updates at least until now. And this makes users curious, considering other significant OEMs are pushing regular monthly security updates to their device range.

Smartphone makers like OnePlus, Xiaomi, Huawei and others are maintaining regular monthly updates for all of their flagship and eligible mid-range smartphones. Whereas, Asus hasn’t succeeded in providing a single security patch to their current year flagship phone, which gets users questioning.

But, looks like, the company is working on a new update, which is going to be the first Android security patch upgrade for the device. Finally! Recently, a ZenTalk forum moderator confirmed the upcoming update when asked why there wasn’t any security patch update coupled with the latest update (16.1220.1906.174).

Forum Moderator: *174 had to be released for other reasons than including the security patch, but It’s coming. We’re updating as fast as we can.

So ZenFone 6/ Asus 6z will finally get an updated Android security patch (hopefully the latest one). But, is the security update going to address the call quality issues that are being reported from day one or the motherboard malfunction issue that got triggered by the recent update (.167)?

Well, we can’t comment on that, but can only hope it does. Rest assured, we are keeping a close watch on all related developments and will let you know as and when the security update goes live. For more Asus-related news and updates, readers may route here.
