Vivo is fifth in the world of leading smartphone vendors. The company is known for its contributions to the smartphone industry of today, among them, releasing the world’s thinnest smartphones, the first 24MP selfie camera and more recently, the first mainstream in-display fingerprint scanner.

The world’s first 120W fast battery charging technology is also Vivo’s and so is the world’s first smartphone display with over 100% screen-to-body ratio, allegedly the Vivo NEX 3. Not bad for a company that isn’t even known to many in the west huh!

Despite all these firsts, Vivo has mostly struggled in one major area – Android OS updates. Vivo devices hardly got major OS upgrades. Once you bought one, you are on your own. However, things have changed since the company started expanding its footprint to markets outside China.

Towards the end of May 2019, the Vivo V11 Pro was upgraded to Android 9 Pie. At the end of July, the Vivo V9 joined the party with a Pie update of its own. And now, Vivo India says the update is also available for the Vivo V9 Youth.

Responding to a tweet made by a disgruntled Vivo V9 user saying that his brother who owns the Vivo V9 Youth already got the update to Android Pie some 8 days ago, Vivo India now says the update to Android Pie is not only available for the standard V9, but also the Vivo V9 Youth.

Thank you for reaching to us. We are delighted to inform you that, Android Pie upgrade has been released in vivo V9 & V9 Youth. when it will be compatible with the handset then you may get the notification for the same and after that, you may upgrade it. ?

While we had covered the Pie update for the Vivo V9 a while ago, the original poster’s comments suggest the Vivo V9 Youth may have also started receiving the Pie update at about the same time as the standard model.

Me and my younger brother both bought Vivo V9 and V9 Youth respectively. He has got the Android P update 8 days back and I am still checking every day if it’s rolled out to my device or not. Please roll it out ASAP.?

As already noted, Vivo India has since confirmed that the update is live for both devices, something we’ve also gotten to verify thanks to the screengrabs below. Besides Pie, the update also installs FuntouchOS 9 on top of stock Android and July 2019 security patch.

Vivo V9 Youth Android Pie update arriving as v6.7.11

When it arrives, the OTA will hit your Vivo V9 Youth as software version PD1730BF_EX_A_6.7.11 weighing in at 2.95GB, so be sure to connect to a stable Wi-Fi network to upgrade your device.

If the Pie update is yet to arrive on your Vivo V9 Youth or even the Vivo V9 for that matter, be sure to wait patiently since OTA updates are released in batches. You might also want to keep nagging the software update button in the settings menu until the download notification shows up.

For those Vivo V9 Youth users who have already switched to Funtouch OS 9 based on Android Pie, feel free to share your experience with us in the comments section below.
