Own a Huawei P20 Lite in India and waiting for the newest EMUI 9.1? Set the reminder for August 13, as the company’s India subsidiary confirms the date.
Android Pie based EMUI 9.1 has been of Huawei/Honor phone users’ interest since it was announced at P30 series’ launch. The latest EMUI has already settled on P30’s predecessor Huawei P20, P20 Pro as well as P20 Lite (although only in the US/North America).
Basically, it was P20 Lite variant (ANE-LX3) which received the EMUI 9.1 OTA that bumped the version further to 9.1.0.134, and brought the May security patch along with the other EMUI 9.1 exclusive features. However, the same got delayed in India, as a few days back Huawei India said:
We would like to inform you that our development team is rigorously working on the new updated version of Android Pie with EMUI 9.1. We are expediting the process at the moment and at final stage to release the software.
Coming to EMUI 9.1’s advent on Huawei P20 Lite devices in the other region, as we highlighted in one of our recent coverages, the OEM itself stated the HiCare registrations (for manual installation) will start from August 13 (i.e. in the coming week).
As you may know, in case of HiCare, only those who register for the patch get it. It’s not like an OTA distribution. Cut to now. Huawei India has confirmed that EMUI 9.1 is likely to be released for the lighter kin of Huawei P20 on August 13. And it should ideally be in form of an OTA update.
we would like to inform you that our software team has confirmed the compatibility of device with Android Pie with EMUI 9.1 and expected to be released the final version from 13th Aug’19 onwards
While the update date has been confirmed, like always, it’ll still be pushed out in batches. Meaning, some may get hands on it first, while others will have to wait. But of course, those who don’t wish to wait for the OTA to flash can register at HiCare and grab it first.
Rest assured, soon as the patch goes live, we’ll update this story with the relevant details like build number, android security patch and other features. So stay connected.
