Motorola Moto Z2 Force Android Pie (9.0) update arrives in India; Moto Z2 Play gets June security patch

Moto Z2 Force, Moto Z3/Z3 Play, Moto Z2 Play, Moto X4, Moto G6/G6 Plus/G6 Play, Motorola One and One Power were tagged as Android Pie eligible devices by the American phone manufacturer Motorola last year. Among these, Moto Z2 Force units in Brazil were bumped to Pie just last month.

As for the American region units of Moto Z2 Force, Android Pie got cancelled for all US carriers other than Verizon. This of course left users in Asian countries like India doubtful about Pie’s arrival. But incoming is a good news. Motorola has finally pushed Android 9.0 for Moto Z2 Force devices in India.

The company’s official device-specific software update page for India region displays Pie was rolled out by the OEM along with the June security patch on July 17. However, device owners in the region have now started confirming that Pie is arriving on their units.

Here’s a user shared image of the Pie update notification that bears build number PPX29.159-19 and and brings the June security patch (just as mentioned on the official site) instead of the latest.

So the wait is finally over for Moto Z2 users in India. But as is usually the case with firmware updates, they are rolled out in batches, so Pie may take time to hit all Z2 Force units in the region.

Moving on, Motorola Moto Z2 Play devices in the region are also getting the June OTA. Z2 Play (aka Motorola Z Play – 2nd Gen) is a 2017 phone powered by Snapdragon 626 SoC.

Shipped originally with Android 7.1.1 (Nougat), the device was upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo last year. While Moto Z2 Play has been getting Pie in other regions, it is yet receive it in India (as per the official device-specific software page).

Cut to now. The June security patch is hitting the phone, but Pie is still no where to be seen. The update bears build number OPSS27.76-12-25-23. Here are some user shared images of the update notification and post update screen which displays the security patch.

Here’s hoping Moto Z2 Play devices in India also get to experience Android Pie sometime soon. Rest assured, we’re keeping a watch and will let you know as and when that happens.
