[New leak] Realme’s new mystery Project X: Is company testing Realme OS?

Oppo’s in-house ColorOS – which is based on Google’s smartphone OS Android – is used in the OEM’s as well as their ex sub-brand Realme phones. Realme is now an independent brand (as they parted ways from Oppo just last year), and their own Realme OS has been rumored for quite long.

As we highlighted in one of our recent coverages, back in May, Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth confirmed that the company has been working on their own Android based OS dubbed Realme OS (in China), which will be officially out once ready. Has that time come already?

It appears the company is done with the OS development part, and is now in a look out for beta testers who could help them refine the product before the stable release.

The OEM has now come up with a mysterious Project X, and looking at the interaction going between the Realme community admin and moderator (in the comments section of Project X’s official post), it appears the project may have to do with the Realme OS.

More specifically, the Project X post went live, one of the Realme community mods questioned if this project has to do with Android Q or Realme OS. To their query, the community admin responded in a manner which raised the possibility of this beta testing being related to Realme OS.

Why Realme OS? Reason being, as you may know, Realme 3 Pro is already part of the Android Q beta program, so that leaves room only for Realme OS (unless the company comes up with some other surprise).

Coming to who all can enroll for beta testing the Mystery Project X, only Realme 3 Pro device holders that have “experience in beta testing pre-released software and reporting bugs.” Here are the basic requirements for being part of Project X:

Requirements:

– Proven experience in beta testing and debugging.

– Owns a realme 3 Pro (no other device will be accepted).

– Bugs and feedback need to be expressed in English.

For your info, Realme 3 Pro’s price has been slashed in the offline market. While the phone launched at a starting price of INR 14,499 (offline) in India, now a discount of INR 1,000 is reportedly being offered on all three variants of Realme 3 Pro i.e. 64/128GB and 6GB RAM, 64GB and 4GB RAM in offline market.

This offer is however available for a limited period. Started on July 26, it will last until July 31. Just in case you’ve been thinking of getting yourself a 3 Pro, you may head to an offline retail store to get the device for INR 13,499 (i.e. INR 500 less than the price on the official website).

Coming back to Realme OS, is there a possibility of the OS coming along with Android Q? Well, it’s just a wild guess, but who knows. Needless to say, we’re keeping an active tab on all related developments, and will share as and when more information comes to our sight.
