There are new updates that have been added to the bottom of this story…
Original story (from July 16) follows:
Looks like beta build leaks are getting pretty common these days, at least when it comes to the South Korean OEM LG. A few days back, we highlighted one such leak regarding 2017 LG G6 phones. The leaked Android Pie beta build worked smoothly on H870 i.e. the European models of LG G6.
Not even a week, and another LG phone’s Pie beta build has been leaked. This time, it’s for the V series’ device LG V30. V30, as you may know, is a high-end smartphone powered by a Snapdragon 835 processor. While the phone originally shipped with Android Nougat, it was bumped to Oreo last year.
And currently the device awaits Android Pie’s landing. Few days back, LG’s official Korean website revealed the new schedule for V30 ThinQ Pie OS update deployment, stating the update that was earlier planned to be outed in Q2, has now been shifted to July. Why?
Well, the reason given for the delay is the integration of LG’s Android Pie based UX 8.0, as can be seen in the image (translated) below:
In a sign of progress, just yesterday, the kernel source codes for LG V30 Android Pie got listed on the official OpenSource Code Distribution site for H930 (European model) and H930DS (Hong Kong model). It conveyed Pie should be coming sometime soon.
And now, going by XDA’s latest coverage, an early beta build of Android Pie has been leaked for LG V30 devices. Details of the leaked build come from an XDA user who reports the build works smoothly on LG V30 models namely H933, H930DS, H930G, H930D, H930, V300L, V300S & V300K.
But the leaked patch reportedly isn’t the full firmware. Meaning, device users will have to install LGUP_Common_DLL_Ver_1_0_28_5.msi to avoid LG UP errors like “Error 0x2000, Fail!. MTP is not running.”
As per the info shared by the user, different LG V30 models will be updated to different versions like LG V300L, V300S, V300K will update from V21s to V30b, LG H930 from V22j to V30b/V30a, H930DS H930G H930D from V22j HKG (Hongkong) to V29g, and LG H933 from V20i to V28g/V28a.
You can find the Android Pie (beta) update download links for LG V30 models here. The instructions to update via LG UP can be seen in the following image:
For those of you who wish to take a look, the user has also shared a video of the Pie update:
