New updates are being added to the bottom of the story…

Original story (from July 12) follows:

Looks like ghost touch is a problem pretty common with smartphones these days. Take for example Chinese OEM OnePlus’ newest bird in the nest OnePlus 7 Pro devices, ghost touch issues on which caused some buyers to hold off their purchases. Here’s a glimpse of the problem on OnePlus 7 Pro:

Keeping up with their reputation of being a community driven company, the OEM acted quickly to address the ghost touch/phantom touch glitch that plagued the units out of the box. In no time, the updates were pushed on Chinese variants followed by global ones to address the nasty problem.

But not all smartphone manufacturers act that quickly to address the problems, not always. We’re talking about Xiaomi, the brand that’s equally popular as OnePlus, at least in India. Ghost touch and touchscreen issues have being reported on Pocophone F1 devices for long, like really long.

While the company has continuously been maintaining they’re working to address touch-related problems, and even pushed updates to fix it, the issues apparently continued to persist as users never stopped complaining.

And, the picture hasn’t changed till date, as touch issues-related reports continue proliferating.

Just last month, Pocophone executive Alvin Tse asked users (complaining about touch issues) to give the beta build a try, for some optimizations were made in it.

However now that the latest 10.3.5.0 stable update has been released for Poco F1 and complains continue to pour in, Alvin has come up with a new statement on the matter. They are suggesting users to send their devices affected with ghost touch, touch lag and screen freezing issues to the company.

Now that 10.3.5.0 stable has been released for POCO F1 and some improvements have been reflected in the build, we are looking to analyze devices that are facing 1) screen freezing 2) ghost touch 3) touch lags. We will need to collect some devices to further test.

Asking users to send their devices for diagnosing an issue, well that something OEMs rarely do. And now that Xiaomi is asking users to do so, looks like they’ve exhausted their resources to reproduce the problem, and now are routing to the actually affected units to get to the root cause.

In case you also face the problem that has been discussed here, and wish to help the company get hold of what could be causing this touch issues, feel free to send your device by writing to the email id that Alvin has shared in the following tweet:

Here’s hoping this time Xiaomi catches hold of the actual cause and does the needful to fix things up at the soonest. Rest assured, like always we are keeping a close watch on the matter and will update the story as and when any new development comes to our sight.

Update 1 (July 15)

Thanks to incorrect reporting by some publication, looks like a wrong message is being conveyed that Xiaomi is recalling Poco F1 or Pocophone F1 units. Alvin, took to Twitter yesterday to clear the air.

Just to clarify, we are not recalling POCOF1/POCOPHONEF1. We care about our users and product improvement and therefore use Xiaomi’s proactive practice to work with users to identify issues they face

See Alvin’s tweets here.
