Back in 2016, Xiaomi released Redmi Note 3 and Mi Max (Prime) in India. Both of these phones redefined the mid ranger category and started the legacy, which is still running with full glory. Although the Mi Max lineup is allegedly retired, the Redmi Note series is invincible nowadays.

2019’s Redmi Note 7 duo are the perfect candidates to hold the flag high. The regular Note 7 is powered by a slightly old Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, and has recently experienced a soft refresh as Redmi Note 7S in India.

Thankfully the Pro variant of Redmi Note 7 is free from these rebranding shenanigans so far. The phone features a brand new 11 nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 S0C, paired with USB Type-C charging port and Sony IMX586 48 MP camera sensor – just hell of a configuration as a midranger!

Call it a fiddly management decision, but the Redmi Note 7 Pro (codename: violet) was initially launched only in India. Even Chinese users got their hands on the phone a few weeks later, which clearly proved Xiaomi’s plan to put extra weightage on Indian market segment.

The mid-June OTA update (MIUI 10.3.9.0) for Redmi Note 7 Pro in India brought the Mi Credit app – another step closure to build a full-fledged software based ecosystem. However, delayed security patch updates and lack of camera stability are still bugging Redmi Note 7 Pro owners.

Well, the much-anticipated June security patches are finally available for the phone, but there is a catch. The newest update of MIUI (V10.3.8.0.PFHCNXM) for Redmi Note 7 Pro is applicable for the Chinese units, thus Indian users can’t directly flash it.

The update also fixes glitchy media volume after notifications, while the syncing feature of Mi Cloud has been improved too. The actual changelog is as follows:

– Fix: Media volume couldn’t be restored after receiving a notification

– Optimization: Improved sync across multiple devices

We hope Xiaomi will roll out the equivalent OTA update for the Indian Redmi Note 7 Pro units as soon as possible. If you have an unlocked bootloader, you can try out the latest xiaomi.eu stable ROM for your phone to get the updated security patches (yet to be uploaded; commit is here).
