Android Q is officially coming to the Pocophone F1 – there is absolutely no doubt left as Xiaomi has already started to recruit volunteers to test MIUI flavored Android Q builds for the phone. But what about the dreaded touch related bugs and screen freezing issues?

Even the latest stable update for Poco F1 failed to resolve the touch issues

Poco F1 owners have a rather polarized experience with the touch related fixes from the Chinese OEM. Xiaomi decided to drop everything experimental into the beta channel (well, that’s the idea of beta), but stable channel rarely got updated touch panel firmware.

See, this is a twofold problem. The touch panel firmware is responsible for handling the lowest level of touch data received by the sensor, while the upper layer software optimizations can bring extra smoothening effects. That’s why the March stable update resolved a handful of touch related quirks.

As a matter of fact, the OEM did bundle another firmware update for the touch controller in the 9.6.20 beta. To be precise, the screen freezing issue with FTS touch panel reportedly vanished after using this new firmware.

The developers have extracted the firmware which is now available via third party kernels as well as most of the custom ROMs, including official LineageOS. Besides screen freeze, the ghost touches are allegedly minimized as well.

If you are running your Pocophone F1 with a locked bootloader and/or don’t want to switch from MIUI, then you have to stick with beta versions of MIUI. Last week’s MIUI 9.6.20 should do, but now the final beta build (9.6.27) is available as well.

It is worth mentioning that this is the final MIUI beta for Poco F1. We are not sure about the arrival of this bugfix firmware via stable channel update, as Xiaomi is slowing down the update frequency while working on Android Q bringup for the Pocophone.

Nevertheless, the download links of the last beta for Poco F1 are listed below. I like to thank my friend yshalsager and the Xiaomi Firmware Updater project for tracking the OTA update URLs.
