2018’s Redmi Note 5 Pro (sold as Redmi Note 5 in China and Redmi Note 5 AI Dual Camera in some countries) was a yet another fantastic phone from Xiaomi. The company sold it like hotcakes, and updated the from Nougat to Pie till now (although there are some ‘bricking‘ situations lately).
Interestingly, the OEM released another Redmi Note phone in the same year. Redmi Note 6 Pro was launched rather silently; even it was not available in China.
Configuration wise, both Note 5 Pro and Note 6 Pro are virtually identical. Xiaomi embraced the (then popular) notch trend and included a notched display panel accompanied by a secondary front camera. The latter came with Android 8.1 Oreo based MIUI 9 out of the box.
The Redmi Note 6 Pro is the prodigal son of Xiaomi, as the phone got a relatively small shelf time. Succeeded by Redmi Note 7 series in Q1 2019 and having a limited release, the phone proved itself as a placeholder – nothing else.
However, the OEM did not completely abandon the owners of the Redmi Note 6 Pro (codename: tulip). The phone was eligible for Android Pie beta testing, and actually received the OTA update in the form of MIUI 10.3.2.0 back in May.
An incremental update, MIUI 10.3.3.0, was also being rolled out for a while. The new build bundled May security patch and persistent lock screen after face unlock feature.
Unfortunately both of these Pie builds were pulled back by Xiaomi for some undisclosed reasons. Those who got the update or flashed manually did notice several glitches, which could be a feasible reason to halt the OTA rollout.
after update issue of 10.3.3
After a lot of things gone bad.
1. Battery consumption gona bad
2. Ram management is very bad
3. Switching betwen two apps with full screen gestures make very laggy to use
4. Gps accuracy is also gona a bit bad
5. Security app crash very frequently
6. Hidden app go unhide when switch between dark and normal mode.(Source)
According to the moderator of the Redmi Note 6 Pro section of Mi India community, there is no ETA about the Pie update as both builds are under suspension.
Amidst the turmoil, we can finally bring some good news for the owners of the phone. Xiaomi is going to re-release the much-anticipated Android Pie update for Note 6 Pro, as the fastboot flashable package of 10.3.2.0 is now live for download.
Publishing the fastboot package is clear indication of a wider rollout in case of Xiaomi. We don’t know why they are releasing an old build without any improvement, but guess it is less buggy than the 10.3.3.0 build.
