PSA: We do understand the recent Huawei ban episode must have raised firmware update-related concerns for you as a Huawei/Honor phone user. While the final picture is still unclear, at least for another 3 months, Google will be working with Huawei. That means, the scheduled updates in the coming 90 days (starting May 20th) should be releasing as planned. But what after that, well, that depends on Huawei’s fate in the US.

New updates are being added to the bottom of the story…Original story follows:

Huawei announced EMUI 9.0 at IFA 2018 as their next iteration of their Android based OS. It integrated GPU Turbo 2.0 for improved game fluency and better gaming experience. The advanced temperature control ensures the device doesn’t overheat by decreasing the hot spots temperature.

Credits to the underlying AI prediction technology in EMUI 9.0, the overall system response speed is now 25.8% faster, system fluency has increased by 12.9% and app launch speed has been shortened by 102 ms. All in all, it offers improved operating efficiency in comparison to EMUI 8.

EMUI 9 – Game on, stay cool

Among Huawei’s 2018 lineup of Mate devices, while Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 X and Mate 20 Porsche Design were shipped with Android 9.0 Pie and EMUI 9.0, their lighter sibling Huawei Mate 20 lite was the only one that came with Android 8.1 (upgradable to Pie) and EMUI 8.2 out of the box.

Powered by Hisilicon Kirin 710 chipset, Mate 20 Lite featured quad camera, HDR Pro, 16x slow motion, complimented a 6.3-inch display and offered only one variant with 4GB RAM and 64 GB storage.

The wait for EMUI 9.0 or Android Pie finally got over for Huawei Mate 20 lite users in China, when last month, some of the Huawei and Honor devices namely Honor 8X, Huawei Mate 20 lite (aka Maimang 7 in China) and nova 3i started receiving Android Pie-based stable EMUI 9.0.

Soon after the EMUI 9.0 got live for some, other curious users started inquiring when is the update going to land on their Mate 20 lite units. While reverting back to one such user on Twitter, Huawei Mobile Turkey informed that the update will be released in groups in April or May.

Here’s what Huawei Mobile Turkey said (translated version):

For the device model, the newest release will be published in April / May and will be published in groups, please wait for the new version.

And the very same day, a Hungarian publication highlighted that Huawei has now stated circulating EMUI 9.0 bearing build number SNE-LX1 9.0.1.162 (SP6C432E6R1P1) (~3.6GB) to Mate 20 lite devices in some of the European regions OTA.

This has left Huawei Mate 20 lite users in other regions questioning when will they get to taste the long-waited Pie soon on their unit.

For those of you waiting, incoming is the latest information form Huawei according to which the roll out will continue until May. Huawei Mobile Turkey shared this information in on of their recent tweets saying (translated):

the Android 9 Pie update for the Mate 20 lite model will continue shipping until May.

They repeated the same while informing another user saying the update is scheduled to arrive in April and May. However, while reverting back to some users a few days back, they said the roll out will complete by the end of June:

Android 9.0 update for Mate 20 Lite started to be distributed as of April. Up to the end of June, all Mate 20 Lite devices are expected to be updated.

They said something similar to another user.

The update for Mate 20 Lite is being distributed to cover the months of April and June.

So all in all, while Android 9.0 Pie based EMUI 9.0 has already been released for Huawei Mate 20 Pro, as is usually the case, the update is being pushed in batches and will take some time to reach out to all.

And whatever the case be, it shouldn’t take longer than June for EMUI 9.0/Android Pie to land on all Huawei Mate 20 lite phones.

EMUI 9.0

So those of you who own a Huawei Mate 20 lite and have been waiting for EMUI 9.0, hopefully you’ll get to see the same soon. Apart from Huawei Mate 20 Lite, last year’s Huawei Y9 (2019) is expected to get bumped to EMUI 9.0 by mid May, while P20 Lite should get the update by the end of this month.

And another good news is that recently, the latest version of Huawei’s skin is EMUI 9.1 that debuted on this year’s Huawei P30 lineup of phones will also be arriving on Huawei Mate 20 lite.

A Weibo post recently revealed which Huawei and Honor devices will be getting EMUI 9.1 in the days to come and the list includes Mate 20 Lite.
