The correlation between OnePlus and regular software update is hard to explain. While the OEM received universal acclaim by providing Android Pie for the 3 years old OnePlus 3 series, their bi-monthly security update policy often creates scepticism among regular users.
Although the regular OnePlus 7 and the Pro variant share a common kernel base, the Chinese OEM opted for different tracks of OTA updates for them. As a result, the May security patch reached to OnePlus 7 way earlier than the Pro users.
That’s not the end of the inconsistencies! The 5G variant of OnePlus 7 Pro is suffering from an (intentional) delay in terms of updates. While the newest 9.5.4 build of OxygenOS bundled a couple of necessary bug fixes to the phone, it did not include the major camera changes from the 4G model.
Behold OnePlus 7 Pro users, as the Shenzhen based OEM decided to distribute yet another OTA update for the phone – merely a day after rolling out the update for the 5G model. Not only the new build (OxygenOS 9.5.8) brings May update, it contains further touch sensitivity fixes.
Manu J., Global Product Operations Manager of OnePlus, has already published the update announcement thread. The full changelog is as follows:
System
– Optimized touch sensitivity for the screen
– Optimized compatibility for third-party Type-C headphones
– Updated Android security patch to 2019.05
– General bug fixes and improvements
Phone
– Improved audio quality
Camera
– Fixed issue with the pop up camera opening for an incoming video call while the screen is off or locked
Regarding the camera, OnePlus engineers included the fix to prevent the selfie camera popping up in unwanted situation – just like they did in yesterday’s OTA update for the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G. The idea is quite innovative, as users now need to perform an action to activate the camera.
Besides including another set of touch sensitivity related optimizations, the OEM improved the compatibility list of third part Type-C headphones. The camera app itself received a minor version bump from 3.2.105 to .106.
According to Manu, the update should be rolled out in stages. Nevertheless, the full update packages can now be downloaded using the following links – thanks to our collaboration with Oxygen Updater.

The OEM also has pushed a new commit in the kernel source, which is inline with this OTA. Kudos, OnePlus!
