Besides Samsung, LG is another first generation Korean Android OEM known for designing some extra ordinary phones. At their peak, Google partnered with them to produce three consecutive generations of Nexus phones – Nexus 4, Nexus 5 as well as Nexus 5X.

While the ‘G’ lineup from the company usually denotes the regular flagship, LG started the ‘V’ series to cater the premium flagship market segment, with additional features like a front facing secondary display.

After releasing LG V30 in 2017, the OEM did a makeover and launched the V30S ThinQ in Q1 of 2018. That was the first LG phone with the ‘ThinQ’ branding. The series got 5G treatment with this year’s V50 ThinQ, making 2018’s V40 ThinQ the last LTE phone in this series.

V40 ThinQ came with usual flagship grade internals – Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, 6 GB RAM, 64/128 GB internal storage which can be expanded up to 1 TB via dedicated microSD slot. This was the first LG phone to feature 5 camera sensors (2 on the front and 3 on the rear).

Despite being released in October, LG V40 ThinQ did not run Android Pie out of the box. LG UX 7.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo was installed by default, although the OEM recently rolled out Pie update for the US carrier variants as well as unlocked models.

Well, looks like LG is now preparing to distribute the same tasty Pie to European users, as they have released the kernel source for the EU variant of the V40 ThinQ (model number MV405EBW).

Thanks to XDA Recognized Developer SGCMarkus, we can confirm that the Android Pie firmware packages for European LG V40 ThinQ are already live and downloadable from the LG update servers. The build features May 2019 security patch level.

For manual flashers, the download link of the firmware is as follows

  • Device: LG V40 ThinQ EU
  • Codename: LMV405EBW
  • Channel: Europe Stable
  • Version: V405EBW20A_00
  • Suffix: ADECOP
  • Buyer: DEC
  • Android: 9.0
    • Type: KDZ

Other European country specific builds should be up as well. You need a software like LG UP to flash this KDZ package on your phone using a PC; anything more than that is beyond the scope of this article.
