The current generation of commercial in-display fingerprint sensors are largely limited to two distinct implementations: one is optical i.e. they need to take a photo of the valleys and ridges of the finger, whereas the ultrasonic ones emit (inaudible) sound waves to measure the same.
Our ultrasonic sensor for fingerprint recognition can detect blood flow within the finger and actually prevent hackers from spoofing the device with a photo or a mold. This extra protection is called anti-spoofing, and it takes in additional information from the fingerprint and makes this solution unique compared to legacy optical solutions.

None of them are completely error free as we stumbled on some intelligent spoofings in past. Phones makers tend to use optical scanners to cut the corners as the ultrasonic variants are way more costlier.
These optical sensor stacks are designed to perform better with time. They are capable of ‘learning’ the finger placing style as well as the patterns of the fingerprint by comparing historic data.
Well, seems that Xiaomi secretly improved the fingerprint scanning routine or shipped a new firmware in the latest stable update for Redmi K20 Pro (should be sold as Mi 9T Pro globally). Several users have reported about better fingerprint unlocking after installing the newest OTA.
More, nothing, the fingerprint is faster.

The new MIUI update for Redmi K20 Pro carries the version number 10.3.9.0. This is an incremental update over the previous 10.3.8.0 build which brought Face Unlock to the phone and fixed buggy selfie camera popup issue.
The changelog (which is quote minimal) of the 10.3.9.0 update is as follows:
System
– Updated Android Security Patch to May 2019.
– Increased system security.
As you can see, Xiaomi also bundled the May security patches with this OTA update. The ‘system security’ part is rather trivial though.
The high frequency of bugfix updates (including the closed beta to patch the jittery screen) is a clear indication that the Chinese OEM is determined to please the global audience with the Mi 9T Pro in foreseeable future.
The new OTA also brings the ability to have a matching animated lock screen paired with the stock wallpaper. For example, now you will get a bluish animated lock screen when you set the blue toned default wallpaper.
As always, we present you the download link of the full update package of for manual installation. Entire credit goes to yshalsager and the Xiaomi Firmware Updater project for tracking the OTA update URLs.
