What color and texture users fall for in a smartphone is completely a matter of choice. While many OEMs settle for traditional colors like black, white, gold and silver, some like Huawei experimented with dual-tone gradient (Huawei P20 Twilight) and created a stir among buyers.

At times, phone manufacturers also come up with special edition devices as a sales tactic to maintain the hype and expand the lifespan of a device. Take for example OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition or Lava Red and OnePlus 6T McLaren Limited Edition, where the actual candy was the new color.

Coming to the Chinese OEM’s latest flagship OnePlus 7 Pro units, once again the company has gambled in terms of color. They released the phone in three shades Nebula Blue, Mirror Grey and Almond, unlike last year’s OnePlus 6/6T which came in colors like Mirror Black and Midnight Black.

And like I said in the beginning, which color users tend to appreciate is totally unpredictable. Now that OnePlus has come up with a different range of colors in their latest flagship, some users are curious to know if the company plans to bring a matte finish Midnight Black variant sometime later.

Recently, one such user took to OnePlus Community, involving other users in a healthy discussion on whether the company will or will not bring a Midnight Black model of OnePlus 7 Pro.

I really love the matte finish on my midnight black 6T thanks to the frosted glass. Do you guys think there’s a chance OnePlus will release a midnight black 7 Pro later on this year? The phone looks amazing but I’m not buying it until there’s a grey or black version with a frosted finish. I don’t like to glossy grey one and the nebula blue color is too flashy for me… Guess I’ll stick with my 6T for now. Am I the only one missing the midnight black color?

Someone even requested the company to bring a midnight variant recently.

The new OP7 Pro is an awesome device but I don’t like the available surfaces/colours. The nebula blue is not my favorite and the grey is shiny. Why did you discard the midnight black for OP7 Pro. It was a surface providing a luxury metallic feeling even with a glas cover. I really like it and own a OP6 in midnight black. The upcoming “almond” looks also good with a luxury feeling but it is a bit to “girly” for me. ATM I’ll stay with my OP6…
My request – bring Midnight Black back please.

While users were sharing their anticipations, a company employee (who is also the Global Community Manager at OnePlus forums) dropped by saying there’s no plan for a midnight variant. Here’s their exact statement:

Glad you like the midnight black finish! Unfortunately, the answer is negative.

With that coming from OnePlus staff, the picture is pretty clear.

In case some of you were delaying on buying OnePlus 7 Pro hoping for a Midnight Black model to be released in the future, better grab yourself one among the three available colors. At least for now, there is no OnePlus 7 Pro Midnight Black model on cards.
