Asus announced ZenUI 6 at the launch event for ZenFone 6 – the company’s newest flagship device that is now receiving its first major update. The new UI integrates features like Dark mode, Smart Key for instant access to a range of commands and Smart Volume that adapts/controls intelligently.

Right after the company announced ZenUI 6 for ZenFone 6, users of Asus’ 2018 ZenFone 5 series’ high-end device ZenFone 5Z, began questioning if and when their units are going to get upgraded to the latest ZenUI.

As of now, ZenFone 5Z embraces Zen UI 5 – Asus’ skin that the device was shipped with. And as we highlighted in one of our recent coverages, one of the ZenTalk forum moderators recently gave a green go to ZenUI 6 on ZenFone 5Z. However, they did not specify how long would it take exactly.

Coming to the latest development on the matter, as curious ZenFone 5Z users continue asking about ZenUI 6, the same ZenTalk forums moderator has now hinted that as UI changes are generally tied-up with Android OS updates. So UI changes for ZenFone 5Z will be linked to Android Q update.

Here’s what they exact said:

Yes I know, our UI roll-outs are generally linked to Android OS updates. As such, any changes to ZenUI for ZenFone 5Z, will be related to the Q release.

On another thread (at ZenTalk forums) discussing the matter, the same moderator clearly stated that UI changes on ZenFone 5Z will take place with Android Q.

Any changes to the UI / functionality of ZenFone 5Z will happen with the Q update.

Moreover, they further added that ZenFone 5Z is next after ZenFone 6 on the company’s priority list for Android Q. However, there’s no ETA as to when is Android Q going to make it to ZenFone 5Z.

And at this time we cannot provide a timeframe for when Q will land on 5Z – except the indication that internally we prioritize ZenFone 6 first and ZenFone 5Z second in the upgrade to Q.

Here’s the forum moderator’s complete statement:

ZenTalk forum moderator’s latest response ZenUI 6 on ZenFone 5Z

What the forum moderator said, clearly points out that ZenFone 5Z will get to experience Asus’ latest skin Zen UI 6 with Android Q’s arrival (if at all the company doesn’t change their plans/priorities, fingers crossed).

The wait for ZenFone 5Z users shouldn’t be long as the company is already testing Android Q beta on the phone. ZenFone 5Z is going to be the second ZenFone series device (after ZenFone 6 as indicated by the forums moderator) that is going to taste the newest Android dessert in serving, Android Q.

And it’s going to be a double bonus as along with Android Q, ZenUI 6 is also going to land on ZenFone 5Z units. I am sure, the eager ZenFone 5Z users will be delighted to hear about this. Here’s hoping soon after Google pushes the stable Android Q, ZenFone 6 and 5Z receive the same at the soonest.
