[Another hotfix for global models] Samsung Galaxy S10 May update out in US, brings only security patch (no Night Mode)

When it comes to the frequency of software updates, we have a serious bias towards carrier unlocked models. Not only they receive much faster OTA updates directly from the manufacturer, but their OS are also free from the carrier bloatware.

Well, the story is a little bit different this year with the Samsung Galaxy S10 series. While the global Exynos powered models are getting way faster updates than their US based Snapdragon cousins, the Sprint variant is a prime exception.

While other US carriers were merely testing March 2019 OTA update, Sprint rolled out the ASD5 build as a potential way to prevent network/LTE data connection issues. Along with the fixes, they bundled April 2019 security patches as well.

Global Exynos Galaxy S10 models started to receive ASD5/ASD6 builds across multiple countries a few days later. Besides April 2019 security patch level, this update also brought the long-anticipated night mode feature in stock Samsung camera.

Remaining US carriers (and the Canadian ones) eventually rolled out the April update in early May. The build number was higher than global models (ASD7/ASD8), but night mode couldn’t make its way in this OTA update.

Well, looks like Sprint once again took the pole position, as the wireless carrier is reportedly rolling out a new update for Galaxy S10e, S10 and S10+ with May security patches. The build number is ASDA, which indicates the build was compiled in April.

The size of the OTA update is less than 200 MB, thus it should not bring anything significant other than the updated patch level. Moreover, there is no reference about camera night mode in the changelog.

Meanwhile, T-Mobile users are also getting the May update, albeit the build number (ASD9) is slightly older than the Sprint one. We are not sure why Samsung and/or the careers are putting latest update patches on older (compile in April) builds.

Judging from the previous events, other US carriers will eventually get the same ASD9 build as May update in near future. However, the exclusion of camera night mode has no justification in front of the regular users.

AT&T users are now getting the May update as well in the form of ASD9 build (same as T-Mobile).

The May update is reportedly rolling out for the global Exynos powered Galaxy S10 phones with ASE5 build tag.

The hefty size (~620 MB) of the update ensures plenty of new fixes, including camera and Wi-Fi related improvements.

Unlike US models, Exynos units got dedicated Night mode back in April, which should be further refined after installing this OTA update.

Samsung silently pulled back the ASE5 build (aka May update for global models) from their update servers.

There is no official statement from the Korean OEM, although we think they will eventually release a hotfix update.

US unlocked Galaxy S10 units are reportedly getting the May update with build number ASDB, which is a minor bump from the carrier build (ASD9) except Sprint.

As expected, camera night mode is still absent.

As anticipated, Samsung is rolling out a new build (ASE6) as a hotfix for global users.

The changelog is slightly different, as now it mentions Bluetooth connectivity fixes alongside the Wi-Fi and camera related improvements.

Samsung is reportedly rolled out another hotfix update with build number ASE7 (the last one was ASE6) for global Galaxy S10 units. The changelog remained unchanged.
