New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

OnePlus team took some time, organized a closed beta testing round, released two public beta builds, but finally delivered what they promised a long time ago.

Yes, the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users are now part of an epic journey as the Chinese OEM has started to rollout stable Pie update for these phones.

Both of the phones are now receiving Android 9.0 Pie based OxygenOS 9.0.2 build. The changelog of this much anticipated update is as follows:

System
– Updated system to Android™ 9 Pie™
– Brand new UI for Android Pie
– Updated Android security patch to 2019.4

Do Not Disturb mode
– You can now customize the time range in the new Do Not Disturb mode

New Gaming mode 3.0
– Supported displaying text content of the heads up notifications
– Added notification for 3rd party calls

Phone
– Dialer now supports Google Duo

Camera
– Supports Google Lens to provide you with powerful image recognition experience

System
– General bug fixes and improvements

Our readers should recognize that the changelog of the final build is somewhat identical to the second (and final) public beta of OxygenOS for OnePlus 3 and 3T. The only difference is the presence of the general bug fixes under the repeated ‘System’ entry. ?

Once again, OnePlus has opted for a staged rollout:

This OTA will have a staged rollout, the OTA will be received by a limited number of users today and will have a broader rollout in a few days (sometimes a couple of weeks or more) after making sure there are no critical bugs, so using VPN to download this build might not work as the rollout is not based on regions and is randomly pushed out to a very limited number of devices.

Nevertheless, we are able to get out hands on the full update packages. Thanks to the Oxygen Updater community, here they are:

  • OxygenOS 9.0.2 for OnePlus 3: Download (MD5: 2fcd035fe4d2f134b99f50d35a9842b2)
  • OxygenOS 9.0.2 for OnePlus 3T: Download (MD5: b4d333c8bb1608ed4b26fd2b2213619b)

Looking at the filename of the update packages, we can infer that the builds were compiled on May 11. The second public beta builds, on the other hand, were compiled on May 5, thus the differences between them should be minimal.

Beta participants should get the same OTA build in waves as the regular users. The latter are stuck with Android 8.0 Oreo based OxygenOS 5.0.8 with November 2018 security patch level for a while.

It is worth mentioning that users would not get navigation gestures of OxygenOS, although some portions of it can be enabled manually. Besides, there is no mention of the data corruption issue after update on unlocked bootloader.

Note that which ROM was in use pre-upgrade doesn’t matter at all, i.e., if bootloader was unlocked and you were upgrading from OOS 5.0.8(enforce encryption by default) to OOS 9.0, you’ll lose all personal data after reboot from recovery installation. Interestingly, everything works as expected if bootloader was locked.

We will update the article when we get more info on the matter. Moreover, it seems that the HydrogenOS Pie update for Chinese OnePlus 3/3T is delayed.

Have you got the update prompt on your OnePlus 3 or 3T? Comment below.

Update 1 (May 23)

Like the beta builds, stable OxygenOS 9.0.2 (Android 9.0 Pie) update for OnePlus 3 and 3T still exhibits data corruption issue on unlocked bootloader. Details here.

Update 2 (June 8)

OnePlus 3/3T users are now getting OxygenOS 9.0.3 update, which fixes the Parallel WhatsApp crashing bug. However, the data corruption issue still exists.

Update 3 (July 1)

Both OnePlus 3 and 3T are now receiving June 2019 security patches via OxygenOS 9.0.4 OTA. The update also contains generic bug fixes and improvements. Details here.
