Allow me start today’s story with another superhero reference.
The latest installment of DC Extended Universe is Shazam!, where the titular superhero (who is basically a teenage boy in his real life persona) fights against the a supervillain, who got his power from the “Seven Deadly Sins”.
The concept of those villainous characters were originated from the biblical seven deadly sins:
- pride
- greed
- lust
- envy
- gluttony
- wrath
- sloth
Well, here is a cute little easter egg in the official teaser video of OnePlus 7 series. While the company is trying to emphasize the significance of the number ‘7’, they also include the reference of seven deadly sins!
Running after the 7th generation (or 6th?) OnePlus phones certainly includes some of these sinful acts; I can blindly choose pride and envy. Perhaps a little mockery against consumerism? ?
Building a business around gadgets (smartphones in this case) requires to push the items to the consumers by hook or by crook. There is another hidden aspect there: building a strong community.
The Open Ears forum initiative by OnePlus is a remarkable way to connect with the grassroots of their buyers, fans and followers. The upcoming India OEF will take place on May 4 (tomorrow) in Goa.
Since it is going to be a community development centric Open Ears forum, a number of prominent members across the Android development scene are joining the event. Looks like most of them have already reached at the venue.
Before the big day, what’s more useful than having some chilled beers and talking about VoLTE?
While the OnePlus India team is busy organizing the Open Ears forum, the Chinese team decided to evaluate the design language of OnePlus products over the time with Liu Haoran, assistant director of the Innovative Industrial Design Office.
The design elements are largely correlated with the available techs. According to Liu, the development of 5G would be a significant factor due to the physical design changes (e.g. the changes required to house the bigger radio adn additional antenna lines).
Subtle changes like the decrement of the rear curvature or the removal of the buttons happened over the course of time. However, OnePlus often looked back and embraced the original two-tone color finish (white & red) with a number of variants.
Simplicity and minimalism are some of the key points in the design language of OnePlus, according to Liu. The choice to textures or the color choices seemed to be rebellious in some occasions.
Interested readers should visit the original thread shared by OnePlus China forum team to have a better glimpse of the narrative.
Talking about design language, the alleged popup selfie camera on the OnePlus 7 Pro would be a striking change. Although we have seen other distant cousins of OnePlus phones sporting this new trend, the Pro variant of OnePlus 7 would be first in their domain.
And now we have plenty of official pictures the OnePlus Pro, courtesy to leakster Roland Quandt aka @rquandt.
The images are quite inline with the previous leaked renders. The Mirror Grey variant looks very much similar to the Mirror Black OnePlus 6T.
There is another Nebula Blue color variant, which actually shows a little bit gradient tone in the rear panel. The triple rear camera setup is clearly visible in these photos.
Leakster Ishan Agarwal got his hands on the same set of pictures, which could be an indication towards a common source. Don’t you think these leaked images came from some retailers and/or press materials?
Incidentally, Amazon India has kickstarted the pre-booking of OnePlus 7 Pro via the mobile app as well as the website. Pure coincidence? You tell me.
That’s it for today. See you guys next week!
