How many of your guys tinkered with custom kernels for your Android phone?
Thanks to the developer friendliness of OnePlus phones, there exists truckloads of custom kernels (I’m not talking about custom ROMs) for them. Those who want to enjoy all the features of OxygenOS, but like to play with overclocking or custom color profiles, third party kernels are here to rescue.
If the answer to the initial question is yes, then you should hear the name of Francisco Franco. His FrancoKernel is one of the most popular custom kernels among Android modding community. Matter of fact, he’s coming to India!
Franco will attend the OnePlus Open Ears forum in India, which will take place in Goa. In the initial announcement, OnePlus confirmed that this OEF in India was primarily targeting the community developers.
With this edition of Open Ears Forum, we aim to discuss how we can better support developers in building great software as well as see what new programs and initiatives we can explore with our community.
In OnePlus Daily Dose #53, we highlighted that Park Ju Hyung aka XDA Recognized Developer arter97 would be joining the event.
Franco’s tweet further confirms that CarbonROM lead developer Christian Oder (@Myself5_), Lawnchair developer Till Kottmann (@deletescape) and Paranoid Android/AOSPA contributor Arz Bhatia (@arzbhatia) will attend the forum as well.
Well, judging from the timing of the Open Ears forum and the roster of the developers, we should expect that the OnePlus 7 series will see a blockbuster aftermarket development. Will be see a bootable version of LineageOS on the launch day, just like OnePlus 3? Time will tell.
What we do know is the OnePlus 7, especially the Pro variant will be a beastly powerful phone. According to some new GeekBench listings, the OnePlus 7 Pro with 12 GB RAM even outperforms the Samsung Galaxy S10 (Qualcomm) in both single and multicore scores.
The tech reviewers and prominent YouTubers should already received their review units at this time. In fact, Linus Tech Tips “accidentally” tweeted (and promptly deleted) the OnePlus 7 Pro packaging, which confirmed the new Bullets Wireless 2 as well as the Warp Charge 30 car charger.
Leakster Ishan Agarwal was able to dump the pictures before Linus deleted the original tweet. The other images show us the familiar red-and-white themed packaging with the new gradient colored illustration of the phone.
Seems like a doctored leak, doesn’t it? Anyway, OnePlus is proudly sharing photo samples of OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro all over the places – thus the leaks are losing their viability.
In a tweet posted by the official handle of OnePlus, they wanted to show the potential of the triple camera, particularly the telephoto lens and the 3x zooming.

The cover for the May edition of popular fashion magazine Harper’s Bazaar (India) was shot entirely on OnePlus 7 Pro. Notice the color saturation and the bokeh effect.
Meanwhile, the OxygenOS team is constantly working behind the spotlight. They just pushed a new set of Open Beta builds for both OnePlus 5/5T and OnePlus 6/6T.

The new UI for the system update could be an indicator of the upcoming UI overhaul. OnePlus might introduce a more sleek looking UI in the next version of OxygenOS (presumably 9.5) on OnePlus 7 series.
