Huawei’s sub-brand Honor expanded their X series lineup of smartphones by unveiling Honor 8X in September last year in China. A month later, the device hit the Indian market and was Honor’s first ViLTE (Video over LTE) compatible device to be released in the country.
Powered by Hisilicon Kirin 710 chipset, this mid-range device was initially shipped with Android Oreo 8.1 (upgradable to Pie) and Huawei’s skin EMUI 8.2. In the later half of last month, the long-awaited Android Pie with EMUI 9.0 was finally pushed to Honor 8X phones.
The Android Pie-based EMUI 9.0 update (weighing 3.00GB) bumped Honor 8X’s build from version JSN-L22 8.2.0.105 to JSN-L22 9.0.1.156 (as can be seen on the following image of the change log).
Adding to that, a couple of weeks back, Honor cleared the air on whether 8X will be getting the latest EMUI 9.1 and also gave clarity about the features that Pie will facilitate like 4K video recording and EIS support in the upcoming updates.
Taking another step forward, within a week’s time, along with many other Huawei devices, EMUI 9.1 beta update (bearing build number 9.1.0.200) was released for Honor 8X phones.
Cut to now, it has come to light that Huawei has pushed the stable April security patch to Honor 8X. The update weighing ~280MB has bumped the build from 9.0.1.156 to 9.0.1.157.
As you can see in the above image, the update change log states:
The update improves system security with Google security patches
This conveys the update is a regular security patch that apparently doesn’t bring along any new features or bug fixes. Also, the update is currently available for Honor 8X model JSN-L42 that is for Asian region, and will be rolling out in batches, so might take time to reach all devices.
This update is available for all Honor 8X devices with model number JSN-L42 so just wait for your turn to receive the update because they are released in batch basis so it took some time to reach you.
As of now, there’s no information as to when will this update be released globally.
FYI the key points that users should keep in mind before updating is that the device should have a minimum battery of about 50% and the update should be installed through WiFi. Though updates barely mess with devices’s data, in case of any issues, users should contact Huawei for assistance.
Apart from Honor 8X, Honor Play is also receiving the April security patch. Honor Play, as you may know is Huawei’s last year’s high-end phone that shipped with Hisilicon Kirin 970, Android 8.1 (Oreo) and EMUI 8.2. Android Pie-based EMUI 9.0 was pushed to Honor Play back in January this year.
And now, the currently rolling April security patch, bearing build number 9.0.0.189 (C675) and sized ~260MB, brings along improved front camera video quality. Along with that, it also fixes an issue wherein green stripes appeared at the edges of the viewfinder while using the front video camera.
The change log notifies that some users may get this update in two segments, wherein the first patch will weigh about 240MB and the second one about 4MB. The first part will bring the April security update, while the second will improve front camera video quality.
Some of the users might get the update in two parts separately 1st one will be around 242 MB and Second one will be around 4MB. But rest assured all will get the latest update.
In addition, as is usually the case, this is also a staged out, and the update is expected to reach out to all Honor Play devices by May 05.
Apart from that, the guidelines also state that Honor Play will be getting EMUI 9.1 (the confirmation for which came a few days back), and the company will update users as and when that occurs.
Emui 9.1 will be available for honor play so it is requested to not rely on the third party websites for any timeline. We will update you on that.
That’s all for now.
