OnePlus News Daily Dose #22: OnePlus 7 case render leak, 10x zoom camera, Google Lens challenge and more!

MWC 2019 created some ripples in the OnePlus community. The super-secretive 5G prototype by the Chinese smartphone maker was way too much quirky. On the other hand, Pete Lau – the CEO was allegedly carrying a preliminary version of the upcoming OnePlus 7.

He refused to show it publicly anyway.

Notorious leakster OnLeaks reignited the flame with a fresh set of high quality CAD renders of OnePlus 7. As a matter of fact, he leaked it to ‘celebrate’ his 4th anniversary as a Twitter user.

People from all over the interweb started looking for a similarly designed phone from OPPO’s portfolio – moments after the renders were published. A majority of them picked up the recently announced OPPO F11 Pro as the foundation for the design.

OnePlus borrowing design elements from OPPO is a well-known fact. We talked about it in one of our previous daily dose.

However, the popup frontal camera is a prime factor here. The alleged renders of the OnePlus 7 have clearly shown it as left aligned, which is entirely different from the centered positioning in F11 Pro.

With an expected release in May 2019, the design of the next OnePlus phone should be close to the finalization at this moment. In my opinion, the upcoming flagship from OPPO is going to be the basis of OnePlus 7.

OPPO VP Shen Yiren has recently announced that the Chinese OEM will launch a flagship smartphone with 10x zoom camera in April. He has also mentioned that the phone will not feature any camera bumps.

FYI, we saw the 10x zooming tech at the MWC. OPPO even shared some glimpses of it earlier.

Shen has posted an image via his Weibo account which shows the triple camera setup on the back.

YouTuber Lewis Hilsenteger, popularly known as Unbox Therapy, is monitoring the situation very closely. According to him, OnePlus 7 could be based on some obscure/concept only OPPO or Vivo device.

Another interesting turn of events: merely hours ago, Slashleaks has posted a couple of case renders which are supposedly intended for OnePlus 7.

Readers can explore the other renders in high quality by visiting their website. I must say, the structures shown in these renders are perfectly matching with early CAD design posted by OnLeaks.

No need to be confused to see a waterdrop notch on the phone, as it is a OnePlus 6T used as a placeholder. If you look precisely, you can even spot the hole for camera popup.
