OnePlus News Daily Dose #20: OnePlus CEO reacts on recent leaks, March Madness, eSports and more!

Samsung and Xiaomi have kickstarted the yearly flagship hype train with the launch of Galaxy S10 and Mi 9/Mi MIX 3 5G, respectively. OnePlus followers are losing their patience and churning out nothing but speculations and rumors.

Yesterday’s daily dose of OnePlus related news was all about the leaks and guessworks around the upcoming phone from the Chinese OEM. To start with, Leakster OnLeaks got his hands on the CAD renders of OnePlus 7.

Merely a day after the mega leak, someone from China leaked a purported real life hands-on picture of OnePlus 7.

Although the picture looks pretty much similar to the render published by OnLeaks, there are some noticeable discrepancies.

After zooming in precisely, the misalignments are fairly obvious.

Should it be considered as a typical incident of forgery? Possibly yes. Is the phone shown in the picture manufactured by OPPO/Vivo? We don’t know either.

What we do know is OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has cared to comment on the alleged leak(s). He has stated the age-old proverb – “good things take time”, with a contextual modification.

He neither has accepted the authenticity of the leak, nor explicitly turned it down. However, Pete has put another mystifying response.

The automatic translation may seize the true essence of the sentence, but it’s apparent that he was mocking the leaker for the inaccuracies.

Previously, Pete was interviewed by CNET, where he hinted about the May 2019 release of the 5G phone.

If you look back a little, OnePlus used to release their regular (non-T) models around end of May or early June. This year, we may experience a slight early release: first the standard Snapdragon 855 powered OnePlus 7, then the yet unnamed OnePlus 5G phone, equipped with X50 modem.

Meanwhile, OnePlus officials: Let’s clean up the inventory before the launch of OnePlus 7.

Call it a coincidence: OnePlus has just announced March Madness in India, a month-long campaign where the smartphone maker will unveil new offers every week on the purchase of the OnePlus 6T.

The offers will go live on and from today (5th March 2019) on Amazon.in and oneplus.in. Brick and mortar stores, such as Reliance Digital outlets, Croma outlets, and OnePlus exclusive offline stores are also part of the ‘madness’.

Buyers of OnePlus 6T can avail up to 6 months of no-cost EMI and exclusive offers using select credit and debit cards. An additional ₹2,000 can be redeemed upon exchanging eligible old devices.

Well, OnePlus India guys are not solely involved in marketing. They are into community involvements as well.

To celebrate International Women’s Day on 8th March, they are organizing a community meet up in Chandigarh.

In another part of the globe, OnePlus and Elisa’s 5G network are powering massively popular eSports event – LANTREK ’19!

FYI, LANTREK is Finland’s one of biggest annually held LAN & eSports events. This year, it started on 28 February and ended on 3rd March.

Finnish carrier Elisa, who is partnered with OnePlus to bring 5G phones in Finland, jointly sponsored the event along with the Shenzhen based OEM.
