OnePlus News Daily Dose #15: 3/3T Pie update theories, new Open Beta, 5G talks and more!

Right now, Barcelona is all about 5G, foldable phones, IoT and 5G (because why not?). Qualcomm is omnipresent in the Congress – they took the sincere duty to penetrate into every possible new tech domains out there.

Partnering with Qualcomm, OnePlus steals the show with their gimmicky 5G prototype phone. To demonstrate the capability of the network, OnePlus allows attendees to play Ace Combat 7 streamed from cloud via Shadow.

Pete Lau, who is the CEO of OnePlus, is little bit sceptical on current wireless charging tech though. In an interview with CNET, Pete has expressed that the current wired charging tech used by OnePlus (‘Warp Charge’) is vastly superior to existing wireless charging standards.

Few years ago, Pete posted a thread in OnePlus forums to discuss about the same. At the end, the Chinese OEM still does not prefer wireless charging tech.

The upcoming OnePlus 5G phone and OnePlus 7 (‘Lite’?) will not feature wireless charging, period.

However, Pete is very happy with his buddy Zak Brown – in another word, the CEO of McLaren!

Seems that more McLaren exclusive variants are coming!

Back to 5G talks, Pete has presented his vision about the next connectivity standard at yesterday’s 5G discussion panel. According to him, mainstream 5G rollout will enhance our lives, build better AI and revolutionize internet of things.

OnePlus will also start early 5G trials in India, partnering with Qualcomm. Pete’s comment is below:

We have been loyal to Qualcomm’s 800-series Snapdragon chipsets since the release of our very first flagship device. This strong partnership with Qualcomm makes us believe that we could bring the best 5G device to the world.

On the other hand, OnePlus 5/5T and 6/6T users are getting new Open Beta builds. Besides the typical ‘general bug fixes and improvements’, the new beta builds contain nothing significant.

The changelog for OnePlus 5 (Open Beta 27) and 5T (Open Beta 25) is as follows:

– Gaming mode enhancement

OnePlus Clock

– Added weather information in the world clock module

On the other hand, OnePlus 6 (Open Beta 13) and 6T (Open Beta 5) have got fixes for video calling, which is related to the recently announced Google Duo integration with OxygenOS:

– General bug fixes and improvements

Clock

– Fixed lag while setting an alarm

Phone

– Improved stability for video calls

OnePlus has published them less than a week after the re-release of OB26/OB24 for OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T respectively.

OnePlus 3 and 3T users are not that fortunate though. They are still living with November 2018 security update. Android Pie seems a fea-fetched dream.

A purported image of Android Pie based HydrogenOS 9.0.0 update for OnePlus 3T was posted by a Chinese user.

The symptoms of fogery were quickly spotted by the community members.

For further clarification, OnePlus Community Manager David Y. posted the following comment:

The next update will be a security patch update based on Android O, then Android Pie.

Can’t you guys just go and do something more meaningful than chasing the update…(facepalm)
