Gmail not working

After Play Store, looks like another Google service is acting glitchy at the moment. We’re seeing several reports from Gmail users that say the email service is down and not working for them currently.

Here are some reports:

As has been the case with other issues, we are keeping an active tab on the matter, and will update the story with more information as and when we find anything newsworthy about this Gmail outage.

Update 1

For its part, Gmail support is currently denying any known disruptions.

Update 2

Here in India, I can confirm that we’re able to access Gmail through our Windows PC. The Android app also works. Just the mobile web version seems to be down at the moment. Let us know your experience in comments.

But others say the service is down irrespective of the platform you access it:

Update 3

Here’s more analysis about this outage:

Update 4

Here’s a workaround shared by a user:

Let us know in comments if it works for you.

Update 5

Google has acknowledged the ongoing Gmail outage. Here’s what the company has said:

We’re aware of a problem with Gmail affecting a significant subset of users. The affected users are unable to access Gmail. We will provide an update by 29/01/2019 18:20 detailing when we expect to resolve the problem. Please note that this resolution time is an estimate and may change

Update 5 (January 30)

While the outage has now been resolved, Google has detailed some new changes related to Gmail that it’s pushing out. Although not confirmed, but this could be the reason the email service was down in phases for users worldwide.

Google Play crashing

We’re seeing reports that the Google PlayStore app is not working for many users. Complainants say the Play Store app keeps stopping or crashing randomly. Here are some reports from Twitter:

As with other two issues we highlighted earlier, we’re keeping a close eye, and trying to find more information. The story will be updates as soon as we have something news worthy to share.

Update 1

Here’s what Google Play Twitter support is suggesting users:

Here’s the English language translation:

Hello. In order to try to resolve this problem, can you clear the cache and erase the data from the Play Store? To do this, go to the settings of your device > apps > Google Play store > storage > Empty the cache and clear the data. Does it work?

Do try it out and let us know if these steps solve the problem.

Update 2

Some users say the workaround (shared in the previous section) works.

Here’s the English translation:

Yes, it’s good it’s settled thank you

Update 3

Here’s the second workaround we came across:

Hello. If emptying the cache didn’t help you, let’s try uninstalling the Play Store updates. Go to Settings > Applications > Play Store > Plus (3 small dots) > Uninstall the updates. Then restart the application. Is the concern resolved?

Update 4

Google denies any known outage:

Fortnite and PlayStation Plus down

Users of two major services are facing problems at the moment. Both Fortnite and PlayStation Plus are reportedly acting glitchy. Here are some PS Plus related reports:

As for Fortnite, it’s currently undergoing a downtime, so a brief outage is expected:

There was indeed a login related issue with Fortnite yesterday, but that was sorted out in a few hours.

On the other hand, there’s currently no official information on PS Plus problem. We are keeping a continuous eye and will update the story as and when we have more information on the matter.
