NOTE: For all latest, breaking news related to Tumblr adult content ban as well as its alternatives, head here.

Update (December 09):

We have stumbled upon two more platforms – Explicitr and Suffra – that are also pitching themselves as Tumblr alternatives. More info on them here.

Update (October 08):

Owl pics? Here’s how Tumblr censor bots are being fooled.

Original story follows:

What is the best alternative to Tumblr? Well, that’s the biggest question on the mind of those who are directly or indirectly affected by Tumblr’s NSFW/adult content ban. Sadly, it’s difficult to answer this question as there are many alternatives, and what one opts for depends on their personal taste.

While many have already migrated to other platforms, there are some who are either pinning hopes on Change.org petitions or digital protests. If, for whatever reason, you have been holding off your migration, we want to let you know that there’s a fresh rumor about a new Tumblr-like platform.

Some screenshots have been shared by a Reddit user, who says they received them from an “anonymous source”. Now, why we felt like this rumor is worth highlighting is because of the language used in the screenshots.

The information in these screenshots is more than just an overview. It starts with how bloggers can use the a transfer tool to copy their existing data – including tags and captions – over to the new platform. Then it goes on to explain how reblogs will fit into the new platform.

The screenshots also reveal the new platform will only support photos, GIFs, text, and HTML. Audio and video support may arrive later. Moving on, copying likes, reblog comments, asks, messages, and other user interaction won’t be possible. There are, however, ways suggested that you can use to preserve your likes.

Here are the screenshots:

While it’s hard to speculate why the name of the platform is being kept secret, chatter on the Reddit thread in question suggests it could be because of usernames (although we aren’t sure).

It said off screen that they weren’t releasing the name of the alternative yet so that the big users could get their usernames before anyone else takes them

To conclude, a secret new Tumblr-like platform may be in the offering, but as of now, it’s just a rumor. So until more concrete information is available on it, take all this with a pinch of salt.

PS: Want to move Tumblr blog to another platform? Here’s how to export data.
