‘Travel on Fi,’ if you aren’t aware, was an enticing deal run by Google Fi (earlier know as Project Fi) on November 28, wherein users who bought a Pixel 2/2 XL/3/3 XL device through Google Fi could get a travel amount equivalent to the price of the device they purchase. That means, if someone bought a 64GB Pixel 3XL (that costs 899 USD) under this scheme, they can redeem a travel card of 899 USD (exclusive of taxes) with Airbnb, Delta Air Lines, Hotels.com, and Southwest Airlines.
While this alluring deal exhilarated Google Fi’s existing as well as new buyers, closure of the promotion left many of them questioning, as can be seen on the FAQs thread for Google Fi Promotion which is drenched with user queries. This single thread has close to 500 ‘Me too!’ and more than 500 comments.
Considering the restlessness among users, the same Google employee – who posted the original thread on Google forums – came up with another post a few days back to provide users the information they’ve been looking for. Here are the key takeaways from their latest post:
- If your device shipments/notifications have been delayed, keep patience, you’ll surely receive an email with the delivery date-related details. So wait for an email with tracking number for an apt delivery status.
- Reaching out to Fi support over and over again won’t help, as the don’t have any additional information related to your shipments.
- Those eligible for Travel on Fi promotion (after a successful purchase) should have received a confirmation email by now. But the email contained outdated information related to trade-ins, and here’s the updated one – Users who initiated a trade-in along with a device purchase on November 28 will be eligible for Travel on Fi. So you can redeem a travel gift card equivalent to the price you paid for the new device (excluding taxes), and will also get the trade-in value in form of Fi credit.
- Also, users who purchased their devices during the Black Friday promotion don’t need to contact Fi support for receiving price protection. It will be honored, even if users were not able to speak with Fi support on November 28. Those applicable, will be notified via emails during this week.
The company also apologized for not being able to chat with users who contacted them lately.
Despite the Google employee answering a lot of queries, a good number of users who haven’t received the confirmation email appear disappointed and confused whether they even qualified for Travel on Fi or not. Some say that even though they haven’t received the confirmation, Fi support is telling them they are eligible for Travel on Fi.
Now this could either be be due to emails still in pipeline and yet to reach out to all or lack of communication between support and Google Fi team. Whatever the case, we are keeping a tab on all related developments and will update the story as and when we get more clarity.
