Here’s another petition.
Update (December 04):
Embarrassing but true: Tumblr’s algorithms flagged its own announcement as explicit/adult. Details here.
Original story follows:
Tumblr’s big decision to ban all adult/NSFW/explicit material has come as a nasty surprise to users of the platform, especially those who own such kind of blogs or follow them. As expected, a lot of users are now looking for alternatives.
But not everyone is giving up. One such user, who calls themselves as an “NSFW tumblr artist” has started a Change.org petition seeking reversal of Tumblr’s blanket ban on adult content.
I’m a NSFW tumblr artist who has the vast majority of their viewership (and thus, potential for income from commissions and such) on Tumblr. With tumblr being taken down, a LARGE portion of my viewer base will go with it, and not only will this hurt people like myself, who rely on this income to live, but it will also mean the people who DO want to view that content no longer get it
So you can see, as of writing, the petition had already got over 160,000 signatures, which is quite close to its goal of 200,000 signatures. We are not sure what affect (if any) this petition will have on the latest NSFW changes announced by Tumblr, but it does show that a lot of users are feeling the heat.
Rest assured, we’ll let you know as and when there’s any more newsworthy development on the matter. Until then, you can read our all round coverage of this Tumblr episode by heading here and here.
