Update (September 12): This coverage of ours gives you a top level view of major Android Auto issues introduced by the Android 9 Pie update.
Update (August 16): While the problem has been resolved internally by the company, a Google forum community specialist (who is apparently also part of the company’s Android Auto team) confirmed the fix will be made available as part of an upcoming OS update.
We understand your frustration with malfunctioning phone calls. This is a known Android Pie issue that is affecting Bluetooth phone calls in certain head units. If you are encountering this issue, please wait for an upcoming Android OS update to address this issue.
However, time frame for the update’s arrival is still not known.
Original story follows:
Apparently, Google is acting quickly to fix the issues provoked by their latest OS update Android 9 Pie – at least the ones plaguing their in-car infotainment system Android Auto.
While Android Auto’s black screen or crashing issue was resolved swiftly with the latest update, what’s now coming to light is the second issue – buzzing call noise while making/receiving calls through AA over Bluetooth – has also been fixed by the company, internally though.
For a quick refresher, the call sound issue was reported specifically by users with Sony’s Auto dash unit (Sony XAV -AX100), which rendered calling through Android Auto useless. Specifically, irrespective of whether the call is incoming or outgoing, nothing can be heard other than a loud buzzing sound.
The problem in question can be more clearly understood by taking a glance at the video shared by one of the affected users (here).
Coming to the latest development on the matter, Google has marked the relevant thread (on their official issue tracking website) discussing AA’s buzzing call sound issue as fixed. They say the fix will be publicly available in a future update.
Here’s their exact statement:
The issue has been fixed and it will become available in a future Android release.
While it’s reliving that the problem has been resolved, there is no ETA for the update which will bring along the fix. We hope it gets live soon. Rest assured, we will update the story as and when the promised fix starts rolling out. So stay in touch.
