Back in August, right after Andorid Oreo’s launch, Nexus 6P units running Android 8.0 started encountering connectivity issues with Android Auto. Not sure why, but soon after installing the November security patch, users with Oreo-powered Nexus 5X also started chiming about the same.
In both cases, users reported that either Android Auto does not launch/connect or the phone is not recognized by the car’s system/headunit. Take a look at how some of the affected Nexus 5X/6P users explained the problem in question.
The good news is that Google confirmed this morning that Android 8.1 contains fix for these Android Auto connectivity issues. Google employee Yurrim (from Android Auto team) broke the news this morning, and said:
The fix for the connectivity issue on Nexus 5X / Nexus 6P is available in Android 8.1 as some of you confirmed here
Yurrim’s post popped up soon after some users confirmed that the issue was fixed for them after updating to 8.1.
