Zoom is a popular video conferencing platform that allows users to have virtual meetings, webinars, and other types of online events.
In these meetings, attendees can chat with each other, either through a public chat or through direct messages.
However, there are concerns that the chat history may be deleted, either by the platform itself or by the meeting host, leading to the loss of important information and communication.
Zoom in-meeting chat history getting deleted in boardroom meetings
Some Zoom users have reported (1,2,3,4,5) that the chat history disappears when participants are placed into breakout rooms. The issue has been ongoing for several days and has not yet been resolved by Zoom.
Hey @Zoom! Did you change the way breakout room chat saving is handled, or is this a setting that organizers now choose? My breakout chat disappeared when group was switched back to the main room.

Chat Contents Disappear in Breakouts
The content that is generated in the chat in the main zoom room disappears (clears out) when participants move into breakout rooms. This is a new change that wasn’t happening last week when I used zoom.

Several discussions on the Zoom community forums have started to address this issue. On these forums, users are expressing frustration about the inconvenience caused.
Fortunately, Zoom has acknowledged the issue and is still working to find a resolution. They have also provided a workaround for those who need to use the chat feature meeting chat and breakout rooms.
The workaround is to disable the new meeting chat experience in the Zoom web portal. This will allow the continued use of in-meeting chat and breakout rooms without disturbing the chat history.
Though Zoom support is actively working to find a resolution for the issue, we hope that it gets resolved as soon as possible to help attendees enjoy an uninterrupted experience.
