At this point, most in the Android ecosystem have shifted attention and development efforts from Android 10 to the current latest edition of the open-source operating system, Android 11.

All major OEMs are striving to deliver stable builds of their own custom Android 11 skins to eligible devices, all at various levels of development.

We have a dedicated Android 11 tracker that is regularly updated to include the latest status of Android 11 development from all major Android OEMs.

With all this Android 11 development, it is, therefore, baffling to see an OEM still struggling to deliver a stable build of Android 10 to its devices.

Well, that’s been a reality for users of the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2. We have a post dedicated to the status of stable Android 10 for the Max Pro M2 and you can check it out here.

The road to Android 10 for this device has been long and convoluted, punctuated with various beta builds, some which brought way too many bugs to the device.

Fast forward to present day and users have all but accepted their fate, many resorting to custom ROMs to stay abreast with the latest stable Android builds on their devices.

Asus has also recently confirmed that it has no plans for a stable release of Android 10 to ZenFone Max Pro M1. However, users of the Max Pro M2 are receiving a new update.

This update, which bears software version number 17.2018.2012.434, is going out to users of the ZenFone Max Pro M2 ZB631KL and brings with it the December 2020 security patch.

Below is the update’s changelog:

【System Optimization】

– Android Security Update (December 5, 2020)
– Update APN list

It is worth noting that this release note is for the Taiwanese variant of the Max Pro M2. It is therefore expected that other regions’ release notes will get updated soon.

At the time of writing, users have not yet started receiving the same so again, it might get rolled out soon.

It is still pretty bizarre that it takes Asus this long to roll out Android 10 to the ZenFone Max Pro M2. For now, the wait is still on.
