YouTube TV has picked up in popularity recently thanks to its vast selection of channels when compared to other services such as Hulu + Live TV.

Moreover, it allows users to get rid of chunky set-top boxes and the resulting mess of cables. That being said, not all is moonlight and roses with YouTube TV since it too suffers from the occasional glitch or bug.

Speaking of which, dozens upon dozens of YouTube TV subscribers have been complaining over the past couple of weeks about their screen freezing when an advertisement starts playing.

To be more precise, it seems that YouTube TV only freezes when the Metro by T-Mobile Rule Your Holiday ad starts playing. We’ve shared some reports from baffled users below:

Hey @YouTubeTV there is something wrong with the Metro by T Mobile Rule Your Holiday commercial. It locks up at the end every time. We have to back out of YT tv to reset it. Could be a glitch with your switcher. (Source)

As you can see, users are taking to Twitter to call out YouTubeTV for a response. Matter of fact, there’s an entire thread on the YouTubeTV subreddit where a number of individuals have also reported the problem.

Like we mentioned above the issue seems to have been around for roughly two weeks and fresh reports indicate that it has still not been fixed.

Moreover, this affects YouTube TV subscribers with the Amazon TV Stick, Apple TV, Xbox One, Roku, and just about every other platform YouTube TV is available on.

Therefore, we can rule out the possibility that the problem might only be affecting users on certain platforms.

That said, YouTube has finally begun acknowledging the problem and has been telling affected users that they are aware of the issue and are currently working on a fix for it.

Needless to say, this is a pretty strange issue since it occurs only when the Metro PCS advertisement plays. Although, one individual claims that it freezes on various commercials.

I need help. Your service has been freezing on various commercials on different devices weeks now. And each device always freezes on the same commercial until I change to another channel and come back into it. ? (Source)

At present, most reports only indicate that the issue pops up when the Metro by T-Mobile ad plays on YouTube TV, therefore, it’s unclear whether this is a one-off or a different problem altogether.

Nonetheless, at least one user seems to have got a sweet deal after reporting this to Google as they were apparently credited a free week for having to deal with the issue.

Oh… found the way to contact google about this issue. They credited me a free week for dealing with this. They state it’s a known issue that their engineers are aware of and are investigating. (Source)

Having said that, we will continue tracking the situation and will post an update once YouTube or Google shed some more light on the matter.
