YouTube has always worked to ensure that the platform is a safe and respectful space for everyone, be it viewers or content creators.

The community guidelines are designed to regulate what types of content and behavior is acceptable. Any type of content that violates them results in account penalties.

YouTube strikes channels for violation by playlist videos

However, it seems that YouTube is unfairly striking down channels that themselves don’t violate the community guidelines (1,2,3,4,5).

According to affected users, YouTube is striking channels for playlists that contain videos that are considered to be breaching community guidelines (from other channels not linked with the individual who made the playlist).

This is peculiar because, according to YouTube’s own criteria, only channels that upload videos in breach of guidelines are subject to such consequences.

If anything, the strike should go to the channel that published the video in question, not to someone who is just adding an existing YouTube video to their own playlist.

i was on youtube when i got a notification that i had gotten a strike because of an old playlist i hadn’t even touched in years, i had this exact same thing happen to me in 2021, for the exact same reason too, “child safety”, which seems like nonsense when this playlist was a bunch of popular vids and gaming vids.

I learned that you can get a community guidelines strike for adding videos to your own personal playlist if they deem the content in your playlist violates guidelines. This applies when it isn’t even your own content lol.

Affected YouTube users are now questioning this move by the company, especially since it may result in the mass deletion of existing playlists.

Overall, this predicament is detrimental to content viewers right now and is undoubtedly affecting an otherwise great user experience.

We hope YouTube provides more clarity on the situation and helps users whose channels got strikes for violation by videos in their playlist.
