YouTube Music may have gotten a lot of things right like smart music recommendations, smart search feature, ability to switch between audio and video versions of the song, and the ability to discover new music and explore old tracks.
But there is one thing that has been broken since the music streaming service’s very advent and hasn’t been resolved to this day. The broken feature in question is so basic that it’s almost amusing.
Youtube music is weird. When you play your Likes on shuffle it doesn’t shuffle the whole playlist. Why?

How do I stop YouTube from playing the same songs over no matter how much I shuffle?

As clear from the above complaints [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8], the YouTube Music shuffle feature doesn’t function properly and gets messed up when the shuffle is being done with lengthier playlists or queues.
YouTube Music users have observed that the shuffle feature works properly only with playlists comprised of fewer songs.
But using it with playlists made up of say, 500 songs or so, causes it to shuffle between only around 50 songs at max, thus disregarding the rest. This occurs across all platforms be it Android, iOS, desktop site, or even Android Auto.
Now, the same problem has been present on YouTube for years now and it was even reported to be fixed by YouTube themselves on Twitter.
However, right under the same post, one will spot newer comments saying that shuffle is still broken.
And now, from several new complaints, a few of which have already been given above, it is pretty clear that the main YouTube service isn’t the only one affected by broken shuffling as it is also joined by its subsidiary – YouTube Music.
So, has there been any official acknowledgment following the one issued months ago? Negative, as of yet. One would almost start to believe that the broken shuffling is intended behavior and is a feature given the time it is taking YouTube to fix it.
It seems unlikely that YouTube will be fixing the problem anytime soon, so you can try out the following user-suggested workaround in the meantime if you haven’t already.
use the shuffle button on the playlist page instead of the shuffle button on the player. the one on the player only shuffles songs that are in the queue
