[Updated] YouTube keeps logging out or sign in glitch on desktop gets official acknowledgement

Used by more than 2.6 billion people every month, YouTube has managed to become a household name.

However, users recently complained about issues such as videos getting unlisted or set to private automatically or unable to sign in after deleting channel.

And as if these weren’t troubling enough, YouTube users are now reporting (1,2,3,4,5) that they are automatically getting signed out of their accounts or have to sign in randomly whenever they use the platform on browsers.

It looks like the problem persists no matter what browser you use. Many are seemingly frustrated since the issue is preventing them from watching videos or leaving comments.

Some say clearing cookies and switching to a different browser does not help. Here are some reports from YouTube users who keep logging out automatically or are unable to sign in.

if I watch any YouTube vid or try to add to watch later it signs me out. When I’m on the main page it shows my icon in the corner but also asks me to sign in on the left side. If I press sign in it just refreshes the page and same issue arises. I have logged out from all devices, tried restarting the pc and reinstalling the browser but nothing worked.

Hey, I just started experiencing this today, but (Chrome) YouTube continues to log me out on every new page and will not allow me to add videos to my “watch later” or other playlists. I have tried clearing the cache and cookies, disabling extensions (even uninstalling them), changing my Google password, restarting my laptop — basically all of the troubleshooting I’ve found online. Unsure why this has started, though I did update Chrome, but I tried another browser as well (Safari), and continued to have this same issue. Is there anything else that I can try, or anybody else who is experiencing this issue? Thanks so much.

Thankfully, YouTube developers have commented on the issue where users keep logging out or are unable to sign in and said that they are looking into it. However, there is no ETA on when it will be fixed.

11:40 am (IST): Many users are again reporting (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) the sign out glitch where YouTube keeps logging them out.

Luckily, YouTube support has acknowledged the issue and said that they are working to fix it. However, they did not provide any ETA for the same.

06:00 pm (IST): According to multiple reports, users (1,2,3,4,5) are saying that the switch account option is no longer available for them after the recent update.

Fortunately, YouTube support didn’t take too long to acknowledge this issue and said that they are currently investigating it. However, they did not provide any ETA for the fix.

12:11 pm (IST): According to one of our readers, the issue where users are automatically getting signed out of their accounts is probably a Chrome-specific bug as it’s working fine on Edge.

I have this problem, but only with chrome (updated). Edge works fine, so maybe it’s a chrome bug.
