WhatsApp starts rolling out group calling feature

The biggest news for the day is the WhatsApp group calling feature (for both voice and video) that has started rolling out.

You can make a group call with up to four people total – anytime and anywhere. Just start a one-on-one voice or video call and tap the new “add participant” button in the top right corner to add more contacts to the call

$1,000 Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium goes on sale

The Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium, which carries a whopping $999.99 price tag, is now available to purchase.

The device is powered by Snapdragon 845 SoC, and comes with 6GB RAM. In terms of camera, there’s a 19 MP + 12 MP dual rear setup and a 13 MP selfie shooter. A 3,540mAh battery is there to keep the lights on.

A $1,800 limited edition LG smartphone

LG has come up with a special device – dubbed LG Signature Edition – that costs a whopping $1,800.

What’s special in it (you might ask)? Well, the phone features a ceramic back, then there’s also a pair of Bluetooth headphones from B&O, and finally, the feeling that you’re among a small group of 300 users who own the device.

Google Chrome and Daydream VR are now fully compatible

Google has announced that its Chrome web browser is now fully compatible with the Daydream VR headset. This means you can now use the browser from the headset itself.

All the features you love on Chrome, from voice search to incognito mode to saved bookmarks, are now accessible on your Daydream headset. But we’ve also added a few Daydream-specific features, like “cinema mode” which optimizes web video for the best viewing experience in VR

Dropbox increases storage for Professional and Business Standard accounts

Cloud storage service Dropbox has announced an increase in storage for Professional and Business Standard accounts.

Starting today, Professional accounts will get 2 TB (2,000 GB) of storage, while Business Standard teams will have 3 TB (3,000 GB) to share

US states to sue Trump administration over online 3D-printed gun designs

If you remember, it recently came to light that US based Defense Distributed has received approval from the US government to distribute instruction manuals for guns over the internet.

Now, however, it looks like the development has not gone down well with states in the country, as several of them are coming together to sue the Trump administration over the matter.

Names like New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Oregon, Maryland and Washington, DC are all on the list. To know why they are against the decision, head here.

MoviePass to not offer tickets for big movies

Sad, but true. The news reportedly comes directly from chief Mitch Lowe, who told staff of the struggling company that users won’t be able to use the service for big releases.

Journalists over at ArsTechnica have unearthed a new iOS phishing scam wherein a malicious webite initiates a call and connects you to a fake Apple Care rep.

HomePod’s phone call support confirmed

Last week, there were reports that Apple’s HomePod smart speaker will soon get ability to make and receive phone calls. Well, this just got confirmed.

The confirmation comes courtesy of iOS 12 developer beta 5, which was recently released. There’s basically a new Phone app icon when you access the personal requests setup UI. More info here.
