Original story (published on June 22, 2022) follows:
Yahoo Mail is one of the best known email services. Although it has lost popularity in recent years, millions of users around the world continue to use it.
That said, it seems that many users are facing an issue related to junk emails in the service.
More recently, Yahoo Mail users are receiving an excessive amount of spam or junk emails in their primary inbox (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9).
Yahoo Mail spam or junk emails issue frustrating many
According to multiple reports, for a few days, many Yahoo Mail users are getting dozens and dozens of spam emails in their main or primary inbox.
Excessive Spam
Is there any way to set Yahoo Mail to empty the Spam folder immediately, automatically when the Spam comes in?
The amount of spam has become extreme. I am in the process phasing out the Yahoo account for this reason, but need to keep it for a period of time. I rarely see any spam in gmail, but am just buried in a onslaught of garbage in the Yahoo account.

The amount of spam coming through is absolutely ridiculous
I get around 20 of these spam emails every day. It’s gotten particularly bad over the last week or so. Doesn’t matter how many filters I create or the fact that I report each one as spam, it’s endless.
Edit: in the time it took me to post this, 3 more have come in.

The recommendation of Yahoo support team
Reports of the problem reached the Yahoo support team. A member of the company staff recommended that affected users mark junk emails as ‘Spam’ to help the system automatically identify future emails from those sources.
Hi, sorry to hear about this. While most of spam emails are being caught by our spam filters, occasionally some can slip through.
When this happens, it’s very important to mark the email as spam, then our system will learn that messages from a specific place are not good and helps us make Yahoo Mail even better at recognizing future spam emails.

To speed up the process, you can check the boxes next to all the spam emails previews, instead of marking each individual junk email as Spam after opened.
Also, if you don’t want to wait for the Yahoo mail system to automatically improve its spam detection, you can block all future email from spam sources:
Same here. This past week has been nonstop spam emails.
Here’s what I did:
Mark the email “As Spam”
Go to your spam folder and then check the boxes next to all the spam emails
Click on the three dots and “Block Senders” then click “Ok”
This seems to help keep them at bay for the time being

We will update this story as events unfold.
Update 1 (July 19, 2022)
02:18 pm (IST): Yahoo support on Twitter is now redirecting users who are complaining of spam emails to their article where they have mentioned some steps to control spam. You can check it out here.
Update 2 (July 20, 2022)
06:18 pm (IST): Yahoo support has now provided a potential explanation as to why users are getting spam emails.
Hi there, sorry to hear this. If you’ve started to receive an endless flow of junk email, you may be the victim of spam bombing. This is a tactic used by bad actors and hackers to distract you from seeing emails that really are important to you. (Source)
Update 3 (July 22, 2022)
10:27 am (IST): Yahoo support has now suggested some more precautionary measures to prevent spam emails. These include using filters and blocking certain email addresses.
Update 4 (July 26, 2022)
11:31 am (IST): Those who are getting spam emails are now alleging (1, 2, 3) that Yahoo is spamming them on purpose to force them to upgrade to Yahoo Mail Plus.
Update 5 (August 15, 2022)
05:54 pm (IST): Yahoo support is now asking those affected to mark the junk emails as spam to help them improve their filters.
What I can advise from my end at the moment is that you’ll need to keep marking those emails as Spam, this way your personal filter will start recognizing those emails as such. More information here: Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm EST, with limited Saturday hours. Thank you! (Source)
Update 6 (August 17, 2022)
06:03 pm (IST): One of our readers has alleged that even the Yahoo Plus subscription does not fix the issue with spam emails. So, it seems that spending money on the Plus subscription just to get rid of spam email isn’t a solution.
I actually gave in and paid for the Yahoo Mail Plus just to get rid of the spam bombs. It didn’t do a thing, so I went back to free. All it does is remove the sidebar ads. Seemed like i was getting even more spam
Thanks for the tip: Roland Goity!
Update 7 (August 18, 2022)
06:05 pm (IST): Instead of acknowledging and fixing the issue with spam emails, Yahoo support is suggesting that those affected should declutter their mailboxes or block the sender.
Update 8 (August 19, 2022)
12:18 pm (IST): One of our readers has alleged that Yahoo has made a silence change in ‘account privacy setting’ where user give permission to sell their information to other companies. And this might be causing the spam issue.
@jean_ERdC Hello Just read article about Yahoo Spam TY. Took look at privacy setting Appears likely during updates thy changed some One thy turned on actually gives permission to sell information I turned it off Curious on your opinion…whether this may be the Spam Culprit (Source)

Update 9 (March 8, 2023)
05:54 pm (IST): More than half a year after the problem of excessive spam in the Yahoo Mail primary inbox surfaced, recent reports indicate that the problem is still present (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).
