Yahoo is so mad at me for keeping classic mail instead of the upgraded version
— Chris Taylor (@christaylor_nyc) November 22, 2018
At this point I’m just doing it out of spite
We are currently already in mid of a major outage at Yahoo where users across various social media platforms are chiming about service outage.
And now we have stumbled upon another sad news, one which is coming directly from the horse’s mouth. The company has announced that the Classic version of its Yahoo Mail is being shut down.
Yes, that’s true.
Just in case you aren’t aware, Classic is an older and basic User Interface (UI) for Yahoo Mail that uses simple graphics and lower HTML version, and therefore doesn’t require any high speed internet or high cost badwidth.
Coming back to the shutdown, an official Yahoo staff member took to at the company’s online forums a few hours ago to break the news, saying the service will no longer be available starting “January 31, 2019.”
Here is what they exactly said while informing users:
Starting January 31, 2019, the Classic version of Yahoo Mail will no longer be available. At that time, you’ll be upgraded to the latest version of Yahoo Mail or Basic Mail, depending on your browser’s compatibility
So you see, those who don’t give up until the last day will automatically be upgraded to the basic or latest version of Yahoo Mail.
I am sure there are still many Yahoo Mail users who are using the Classic version for some reason or the other:
Yahoo keeps trying to flip us to a new version, here's my response: I am happy with the classic mail. How many times do we have to tell Oath/Yahoo that we are happy. Classic mail is the best. The original is still... https://t.co/IoJ1obM4P4

I've decided to switch back to classic Yahoo Mail, maybe that will stop the scams. pic.twitter.com/apxQ33GrPp

Now @yahoomail is trying to force people to migrate to the new "improved" platform by making the classic mail less functional, even for paying customers like me. #technology #email #consumers #angry

So this news will definitely come as a surprise for many of them. In the end, RIP Yahoo Classic Mail is all that we can say now.
Update (January 28):
It’s about time, and classic mail will bid adieu in a couple of days. Here’s what users have to say:
I agree. Classic was very good but they don’t listen to their users. Take tumblr for an example their just killing it off
Well, that’s a bit of bullshit. I much prefer Classic.
Why is @Yahoo dropping Classic Mail format, thereby forcing mail users to change to the Basic crap-trap or New (to have mail read & info sold to advertisers -legally now?)
