Here’s the thing, MIUI 12 is no longer new parse. We’ve seen the custom Android skin from Xiaomi roll out to eligible devices steadily over the past few months.

At the time of writing, the third batch of MIUI 12 rollout has just started, meaning that Xiaomi is already on the final leg of this rollout.

However, a few eligible devices are still out in the cold, waiting for the much-hyped and anticipated MIUI 12 build. One such device is the Redmi Note 9 Pro.

We’ve said this before and we will say it again. Xiaomi’s naming game is terrible. Redmi Note 9S has already bagged MIUI 12 in India as the Redmi Note 9 Pro. This should not be confused with the Redmi Note 9 Pro sold in the global market, codenamed joyeuse.

Back to our device. We’ve recently dug deep to find out why the MIUI 12 update hasn’t rolled out to the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, Redmi Note 9 Pro, Redmi Note 9S, and the Redmi Note 8T. You can check out our coverage of the same here.

Initially, we saw reports that the MIUI 12 update for the Redmi Note 9 Pro would hit said devices sometime in August. However, new information confirms that this won’t happen until October.

Xiaomi, through its official Indonesian Twitter handle, has confirmed that the company is working to see to it that the MIUI 12 update to the Redmi Note 9 Pro will be rolled out in October. The Tweet reads:

Right now, we’re making sure MIUI 12 will give you the best experience to use it. For Redmi Note 9 Pro users, the MIUI 12 update will be available in October 2020. While for other products we continue to strive to provide regular updates as soon as possible.

While this might only apply for the Indonesian variant, the same should roll out to other regions pretty soon after that, probably even sooner.

This update has been under testing for a while and is set to bring fixes including Widevine L1.

Another device in the same line whose update is still in the wind is the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. To know why this device’s MIUI 12 has been delayed, check out our coverage here.

When asked by a user when the device is likely to get updated to MIUI 12, Redmi India’s official Twitter handle responds, confirming that:

We do understand your concern regarding the MIUI 12 update. As of now, Update has been rolled out in batches. Our team is working as fast as they can to make sure everyone gets the proper updates on time. We request you to kindly wait and once it’s available.

Does this mean that Redmi Note 9 Pro Max users should be getting updates to MIUI 12 soon? Did Xiaomi mean MIUI 12 updates in general? We don’t know for sure.

Also, seeing as no Redmi Note 9 Pro Max user has reported receiving an update to MIUI 12, this tweet might as well be referring to the general MIUI 12 rollout.

Either way, Xiaomi should try and push out the said update soon as users are growing increasingly irate over the seemingly endless wait.
