This story is being continuously updated…. New updates are being added at the bottom…..

Original story (published on August 06, 2020) follows:

Xiaomi is hard at work, pushing out MIUI 12 to more and more eligible devices. Already, a good chunk of the devices from the company that were set to receive this update have done so and reports have it that the second phase of the rollout should be complete by September.

Today, Xiaomi is adding yet another device to its list of updated devices, the Redmi Y2 (sold in the Global and Chinese market as the Redmi S2).

The Redmi S2 was unveiled back in May 2018 running Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. The device has since been updated to Android 9 Pie with Xiaomi’s MIUI 11 on top.

The device was set to get updated to MIUI 12 in the third batch of the second phase of the rollout and true to the company’s word, users have already reported receiving an update to MIUI 12 on their devices.

The new update is still based on Android 9 Pie and bears software version number V12.0.4.0.PEFCNXM. This update file, for those who get the OTA update, weighs in at 837MB.

While we only have the Chinese notification for this update, the changelog looks like the one we have seen with other MIUI 12 updates and as such we expect this update to bring most MIUI 12 features to this device.

As mentioned earlier, and as is the case with most updates from Xiaomi, this too is an OTA update. As such, it should hit all eligible devices in due course.

That said, if you want to manually install this build on your Redmi S2, below is the download link.

  • Device: Redmi Y2
  • Channel: China Stable
  • Version: V12.0.4.0.PEFCNXM
  • Android: 9
    • Type: Recovery

We shall continue to keep an eye on this roll out and update as and when we get more info. Stay tuned to our dedicated Xiaomi section for these and much more. Also, we have a dedicated MIUI 12 tracker so you might want to check that out as well.
