Xiaomi isn’t really known for pushing timely system updates for its devices but it appears the company is improving on that front a bit. This is because it was one of the first OEMs to release the Android 11 beta update for its flagships.
Matter of fact, Xiaomi also released the stable Android 11 update for the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro the same day as Google began rolling out the update for its Pixel smartphones. So its good to see Xiaomi step up its game when it comes to providing software updates.
That said, the company still only provides one major Android update for most devices from the Redmi series whereas the Mi-branded units get two major Android updates. Considering most other OEMs offer at least two Android version updates, this is a tad disappointing.
Nevertheless, the Redmi Note 9 is one of the few devices from the Redmi series that is expected to get the Android 11 update. Previously, we reported that the devices may bag Android 11 by the end of this year itself.
This can indeed be a possibility since newer report suggests that Xiaomi is currently testing Android 11 on the Redmi Note 9 amongst a few other smartphones internally. Thus, Redmi Note 9 users can expect to see the update roll out within the next few months.
And when asked about the possibility of a Mi Pilot program for the Redmi Note 9, a Mi Community responded by saying the following:
Can’t say. I doubt there would be a recruitment for MIUI 12, but there could be, for Android 11. But we’ll have to see.
This means that before Xiaomi rolls out the stable Android 11 update for the Redmi Note 9 and other smartphones from the Note 9 series, there are chances that it will recruit beta testers to take part in the Mi Pilot program.
Of course, the moderator’s choice of words does suggest that this is only a possibility and it’s not a direct confirmation. Therefore, we’d suggest waiting for an official statement from Xiaomi to clear things up.
That said, the Android 11 update or MIUI 12 update is expected to bring several new features and improvements for the Redmi Note 9 series. So we will continue tracking the situation and will post an update once Xiaomi or Mi Community mods share more details.
In the meantime, stay tuned to our dedicated tracker for the rollout of Android 11 on eligible devices from Xiaomi for more information.
