This story is being continuously updated…. New updates are being added at the bottom…..
Original story (from August 14) follows:
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 launched with Android 10 pre-installed which makes it eligible for the upcoming Android 11 update. This is because Xiaomi provides at least one major OS update to its affordable or budget smartphones.
However, what’s hard to guess is when the Chinese OEM will begin rolling out the Android 11 update for the Redmi Note 9. So a user took to the Mi Community to seek a response on the subject. As it turns out, a moderator has shed some light on the matter.
According to the mod’s response, Redmi Note 9 users won’t get a dedicated Android 11 beta update since that’s only reserved for flagship phones. Instead, the device will get Android 11 via an MIUI update later this year. Here’s the entire comment:
Android 11 isn’t even released yet. Have patience.
Google only gives Beta programs for a few selected flagship devices, so can’t expect any Beta versions for Redmi Note 9. Also, there won’t be any Beta from Xiaomi either – you’ll have to wait for it to be made available as MIUI later in the year.
Thus, Redmi Note 9 users can rest easy knowing that the Android 11 update may arrive this year itself for the device. FYI, the device has also picked up the MIUI 12 update on Global, Indian, and European units. Speaking of Android 11, the Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro are currently part of the beta testing.
Furthermore, Xiaomi began rolling out the MIUI 12 update based on Android 10 for the Mi 10 duo back in June for the models sold in China. And the widely available Mi 10 also grabbed the MIUI 12 update in Europe, Russia, India, and on the Global units.
Although, the MIUI 12 update for the Mi 10 in India has been rolled out only for Mi Pilot testers at the moment. Further, the update for Indonesian units was expected to be released this month — i.e, August. And well, it turns out that Xiaomi has stuck to its plans.
This is because the stable MIUI 12 update has now been released in Indonesia, albeit to a limited number of users. The new MIUI 12 beta stable update is rolling out as version 12.0.1.0.QJBIDXM via an OTA package.
Typically, Xiaomi releases Beta Stable updates just a couple of weeks before the stable version goes live. This is done to make sure that no major bugs pass through and affect users on a large scale. So users can expect to see a wider rollout in a couple of weeks.
